Advantages: Good Build Disadvantages: Speed slow. P4 soon will be out of date
...i brought a Gateway 1400 P4 in December 2000. It broke down a couple of days later. I contacted Gateway and they said they would send an engineer. The engineers failed to appear twice before Christmas, and having brought my 3 son loads of software, this was very distressing.
Enginners arrived in Jan2001 and couldn't fix it. Gateway now refused to take it back stating I had gone outside the 15 day return. Their customer services are very rude very un-professional, and I dreaded having to ring them. I wrote, and wrote, and rang and rang, and after another 2 weeks thay agreed to take it back, two weeks after having it back they re-imbursed me. Costing me £52 in interest. I still havn't received a letter in reply to my complaints some 6 weeks later.
Their motto is "People Rule" can they add ..."But customers stink!!"

Advantages: Excellent service, free advice for the life of the computer Disadvantages: A little slow to get through, put on hold for a while
...I think that without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best support service I have had - the fact that it is a freephone number helps a great deal, and the support stands even when outside of waranty.

and the guy spoke extremely slowly!!
Gateway, however, explained to me indepth how to solve a similar problem on my other PC, and even though I was put on hold for about 10 mins, it was worth it as I wasn't paying.
Also, Gateway staff are very courteous and personable, vene when I was irate about the glitch (my computer was barely 3 days old at the time).

Advantages: easy setup, good range, excellent value for money Disadvantages: none so far
...The BT USB modem which came with our broadband package worked fine, but needed changing when we wanted to network the family's computers together. After much reading of reviews and visiting many forums on the subject we chose the Linksys WAG354G ADSL Home Gateway and, at £49.95 from Amazon, it looked very good value, especially as P&P was included. Linksys is part of Cisco Systems, a recognised expert in the field of computer networking.
The Linksys Home Gateway combines 4 functions in one small box: an ADSL2+ modem, a hardware firewall and a 4 port switch and wireless access point. Not only can all the family's computers be on line at the same time anywhere in the house, but everyone can access both the printer and scanner attached to our main computer. You can connect up to 4 computers through its 10/100 ethernet switch and up...
