I excitedly awaited my new Gateway laptop, one of the solo range – P11 500, 128 ram, fully kitted out, with every conceivable extra you can imagine. How was I to know this was the start of a complete nightmare…
The delivery never happened, after many calls to the Transport Company, I eventually got my machine – how, I drove 40miles to pick it up – not to mention the fact that I paid £40 for its delivery. Apparently, the delivery from the depot to my house is a complimentary service and the £40 covers the delivery of the machine from the warehouse to the depot!! What a joke!!
Oh will, at least I have my brand new machine in my house – ready for me to play with, open up the box (remember, thousands and thousand pounds of kit) and what’s that I see on the screen? It’s a DEAD PIXEL, well, considering this was my first laptop, all I saw was a single white dot on my brand new, just of the box PC. It was the (not so) kind support team that informed me that what I was seeing was a dead pixel. Well, I’ll just have a new one then I say, sorry no can do – European legislation states that the PC only will be replaced if there are more than 5 of these pixels on the screen and that they are grouped in the same area!
OK, so then I try to exercise my 14-day money back guarantee, would they let me – NO! After being told by customer services that my request is denied and many, many, many more calls to customer services – not to mention a near nervous breakdown, I mention my solicitor and they decide that on this occasion they will change the machine – but to remember that they are doing me this huge favour!!!
Never will I buy a Gateway machine. Oh, and is this a good time to mention the spacebar on the laptop? Well, it only works if it is pressed EXACTLY in the middle – ain’t that a nice touch!
