The Gathering Storm - Finney's finest hour

Advantages: Amazing acting, strong story
Disadvantages: None to speak of

The Gathering Storm charts the course of events from Winston Churchill's Wilderness Years during Baldwin's National Government in the mid-to-late 1930s, until his return to office as First Lord of the Admiralty at the outbreak of the Second World War. = PLOT SUMMARY = Winston Churchill has become a backbencher, increasingly ridiculed as yesterday's man, a man of no-judgement and a war-monger. It is the mid-1930s, and no-one seems to have any stomach to confront the rising threat from Hitler's Germany. Churchill desperately seeks solace during his Black Dog moods at Chartwell, writing prolifically to pay the bills, while casting around for ways to draw the public's attention to the very real danger he senses. This film charts Churchill's struggles through these dark times, where he gets assistance from well-placed people ...

Review of Gathering Storm (DVD)

You will definatly be storming ahead in these!

Advantages: (+)Waterproof, (+) Breathable, (+) Sturdy, (+) Good quality, (+) Well Priced
Disadvantages: (-) Leather boots need taking care of

not once did I twist my ankle. The boot has a great deal of support around the heel with lots of padding on the fabric inside lining. The overall boot is durable and also waterproof. It has a sewn in leather tongue so there are no gaps between the boot and the tongue as it is all in one to prevent water getting in to the inside of the boot. Technically you would be able to stand in water up to above your ankle in depth and not get wet as the leather creates a waterproof cover (providing you keep the boot care up and look after it). The boot is also breathable so it limits sweating from your feet with in the foot. **********Quality********** Peter Storm is a very well known and respected make in the 'outdoors' industry. They have been around for many years and have used their experience to make their products to a high standard ...

Review of Peter Storm Women's Skiddaw Leather Boot

WRITTEN IN THE BODY (The Gathering - Anne Enright)

Advantages: beautifully written, has staying power
Disadvantages: grim, not much happens, unlikeable narrator

Summary: beautifully written internal-monologue tale of bodily anguish It's not difficult to see why Anne Enright's "The Gathering" has been short-listed (and eventually, selected) for that ultimate literary fiction accolade, the Man Booker prize. If our (or the jurors') idea of the the peaks of literary novel is, almost unavoidably, defined by the Great Moderns, if it's all of Joyce, Woolf and Lawrence; Proust and Kafka; then "The Gathering" had to be recognised because it's steeped in that tradition. Veronica Hegarty, one of the twelve Hegarty siblings is bringing her brother Liam home to bury. He walked to his death in the Brighton sea, his brain muddled by drink, his pockets filled with stones. The gathering of the title refers to the family coming to the funeral in Dublin, but most of the book consists of Veronica ...
