Written by James Corden and Ruth Jones (Smithy and Nessa) this is one of my absolute favourites, there's nothing better than been able to cosy up and watch an episode on Gavin and Stacey. History Series one started with Nessa, Stacey, Gavin and Smithy meeting up on a night out. Gavin and Smithy are from Billericay, Essex and Nessa and Stacey are from Barry Island in Wales and how Gavin and Stacey's love for each other starts. True to real life the two start texting away and eventually the end up getting married the couples families get on like a house on fire and then exciting honeymoon period begins. Series two starts when Gavin and Stacey are returning from they're honeymoon and start married life in the real world flitting between two homes in Essex and Barry. Stacey Shipman nee West (Joanna Page) I would say most women would find it easy to relate to a lot of the things Stacey says and Stacey does. She initially lives in with Pamela and Michael (Gavin's Mum and Dad) and it's different at first however when she starts struggling to find a job she looses morale and decides to put it straight to Gavin that she's returning to live with her mum, Gwen, in Barry. Gavin Shipman (Matthew Horne) Gavin has one main best mate Smithy who is like a brother to him and son to Pam and Mick. The two of them have loads of quirky hand shakes and welcome dances, which are so funny to watch. Gavin then takes on the role of getting Stacey back after the typical man thing to do - go out! Smithy persuades him to go on a lads style stag do to which Gavin declines and makes them remove all their stag style t-shirt and then they enjoy the night. Gavin however is missing Stacey immensely. Bless! "Nessa" Vanessa Shanessa Jenkins (Ruth Jones) There is nothing that Nessa hasn't done or can't do from dating John Prescott to a professional bowler Nessa is hilariously intriguing with her 'can do' attitude. She becomes another member of the The situation between Nessa and Smithy, Stacey's best friend and Gavin's best friend is unusual to say the least. They have this attraction to each other that started off with a one night stand in the back garden at Gavin and Stacey's engagement party which led to Nessa falling pregnant! "Smithy" Neil Smith (James Corden) Smithy as above is Gavin's best mate they did everything together before Gavin got married and the series shows how Smithy continues to cope and struggle being second best. Once Smithy finds out about Nessa's pregnancy he has other things to think about than Gavin. His relationship with Lucy (never seen on set) breaks down as she declares she's been seeing someone else and he takes another shining to Nessa. Smithy slowly develops more feeling for Nessa than he wishes to and the story goes on. Pamela Shipman nee Wiggell-Eschefska and Michael Shipman (Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb) Pamela and Michael annoyingly funny. Pam takes on the role of Gavin's mother and also local gossip. She is constantly gossips and tittle tattling with all the neighbours. She kept up the lie of being a vegetarian for some time however started to fail miserably when Stacey moved in and Pam started switching Linda McCarthy sausages for normal pork sausages!!
Although real to life there is a few odd situation that occur!?! One being the fishing trip involving Bryn and Jason, Stacey's camp Uncle and gay Brother on what sounds like a secret which is 'perfectly legal in this country' apparently as said by Jason. However, everyone seems to know about it bar the watching - interesting. Watch out for Nessa and Bryn's duets on stage in the barn dance and Bryn's continuous singing parades in the car at home and well anywhere - it's addictive it just makes you want to join in!
The third series commences November 26th so watch this space...

Review of Gavin and Stacey: From Barry to Billericay - James Corden & Ruth Jones
Advantages: A bit of an insight into the characters' lives, true to the TV show Disadvantages: Simply not as funny
...book is the first official Gavin and Stacey book that has been released so far. It gives some background information into the lives and opinions of the various characters in the sitcom. I am a huge fan of the series, I'm not gonna lie to you. However, I found this book dissapointing. It is written by the original writers - James Corden and Ruth Jones - so it is inkeeping with the style and language of the TV show. Despite this I found the content ... ...things that are in the book are emails between Gaving and Stacey before they met, texts between Pam and Mick and letters to and from Nesa from various former boyfriends. These letters which came from people like John Prescott soon became the same old stuff. The only part that I found slightly funny were the parts written by Bryn as he is always funny. ...
