Fingersmith: Who is the real fingersmith here?
Advantages: Brilliant descriptions, realistic characters and an interesting romance with plot twists. Disadvantages: Some might find this slow-paced and overly descriptive.
...most of Sarah Waters' books, Fingersmith involves Lesbian romance which is depicted tastefully although in some parts has graphic content. The feelings developing between Sue and Maud were realistic and fun to read. I found the plot twists that appeared in the novel surprising and brilliant.
Fingersmith was an enjoyable read, I raced through the pages just to find out what would happen next and spent most of my nights staying up just so I could ...

Enchanting read.
Advantages: Quick, easy, fascinating and "moorish" read. Disadvantages: None.
A well written novel. Not a lot of books can be called that these days. A lot of mystery, ideal dose of tension, sensuous but not overwhelming descriptions. I marvelled over the combination of innocence and cunning in the book. A girls go to work as a mentor in women's only prison. She has few under her care and there is one, special one she is intrigued by. Young girl who never says much. Friendships are not allowed between staff and convicted. ... ...as possible about the quiet girls. And so begins the exchanges of letters, small gifts, touches... The quiet girl is a spiritual medium, the senior staff is keeping a close eye on our mentor... The story developed in a natural, steady manner and although the subject matter was somewhat "incredible" I could not help but believe in everything that was going on. And no, I did not predict the ending. Someone might have done, some said it was not difficult ...

Introduction

The Line of Beauty is an excellent read which was recently turned into a 3 part series by Queer as Folk director Russell T.Davis. While I enjoyed the televisation I didnt feel it captured the same joys and horrors that the original book did.
I first wrote this review about a year ago when I joined Ciao and at the time it was rightly rated very poorly, I hardly included any information at all. So I decided to update ... ...will. The Author - Alan Hollinghurst
*********************************
Born in 1954 Alan Hollinghurst was educated at Oxford University and went on to work for the Times newspaper.
His first novel was The Swimming- Pool Libary (1988) in which we see some of the themes that are present in The Line of Beauty; the upper classes, scandal and intrigue and of course the gay lifestyle of certain of his characters is a central theme. He then wrote The ...

Daughters of a Coral Dawn is a Lesbian Sci-fi/Romance novel. Earthman smuggles alien to earth who can only give birth to girl children (multiple qtys every birth) - all are gifted in one way or another and each reproduce at such a rate that their existence will be threatened unless they find another planet to live on. Story follows selection of a leader, the preparation and journey to their new home and the colonisation of the new world. Threats ... ...inhabitants pose problems and joy in various amounts. The heroine needs someone to love.....that is all I am going to tell you except that when I am down this is a book that brings a warm glow and a tear! I have read it many times and would be devastated if it ever went missing from my collection. It is from NAIAD PRESS - ISBN: 0-930044-50-9. Don't forget the choccies and the bottle of wine to go with it! - Enjoy. ...

The Spell, I wasn't spellbound
Advantages: Very good characterisation Disadvantages: Unmemorable
...I read this novel but the one thing that stuck with me was the overall mood of the book. It was awkward, you felt almost nervous reading it, and the plot was so indistinct I can only remember snippets, something about a party at which Robin smokes some weed and has a sexual encounter and they all go to the beach at some point. Suffice to say the book didn't leave a lasting impression on me. The sex scenes, which I'm supposing many men would buy this ... ...based, so it had all the clumsiness and inadequacies of a real sexual encounter. I supposed that was the point; 'a comedy of sexual manners'... Didn't strike me as a comedy but we're all different. I'm not really the focus audience of this book. It was readable, and I only paid about £3 for it, so it wasn't too bad. If you like reading about the lives of gay men, and like reading a lot of internal feelings and thoughts then you'll like this. It's ...
