Advantages: A compact substitue for a piano Disadvantages: Nothing really
...I have interited a Roland EP-77 from my mother. I don't know mich about digitalpianos, but it seems to do everying you would need of a machine that is intended as a substitute for the real thing. It sounds like a piano (to me), it sort of feels like a piano, but it is a lot smaller.
This is a neat and unassuming digital keyboard that would make a good substitute for a real piano if you lack the room. It is essentially free from most gimmicks and comes with 2 large built in speakers and also 2 headphone sockets. Best of all, it doesn't look or feel like a toy that probable better describes many other keyboards.
I like the feel of the keys. I guess it is supposed to mimic a real piano. I wouldn't say that they have suceeded 100% but it is good enough. Recommended....

...After several years of hard graft my old Roland died and it was time for a new one. I knew that technology had moved on since my old one was produced but I had no idea how much! I am a classical pianist without the room for an acoustic piano so buying another digital was my only option. Digitalpianos have always seemed a bit of a compromise to me but this Roland model compromises nothing!
With it's progressive hammer action you really wouldn't know you were playing a digital if you had your eyes closed and the sound is just incredible. It is very easy to operate and has some great voices.
For what you would get in an acoustic piano for the same money this instrument is amazing value and for me sounds and feels much better than any of the more expensive Yamaha models....

Advantages: Not too bulky, can use headphones, weighted keys Disadvantages: control button under the piano
...useful alternative or back up.
Speaking as a teacher ,if a parent can't afford or does not want to spend lots on a reasonable piano then I would prefer the child to have a good digitalpiano rather than a honky tonk pub type piano that doesn't work properly.
However that is only of any use if you buy a full sized 88 key digitalpiano with weighted keys. More of that later...
There are several good makers of digitalpianos, the most popular being Yamaha, Roland and Technics. These are the ones that professional musicians tend to choose between.
John bought my Roland from a friend who was selling one which was only 6 months old but I researched them fairly thoroughly and shortly afterwards bought a brand new Roland for one of my daughters.
I had experience of Roland and Yamaha at the school where I was Director of Music for a time...
