Advantages: RIBA 1, 2 exemption, freedom of expression, combined Masters degrees, safe campus, facilities, environment Disadvantages: disorganized, location, distance from central London
...Architecture in general, is certainly one of the toughest and longest courses to study. If you don't have a passion for it, if you value your time more than your discipline, or if you are thinking about taking a degree in general without any special interest, then you should consider following a direction other than this.
I've been a student n East London University for the past 3 1/2 years. Therefore, I do belong in the "UEL Vilage" (as we informally call our small community), and I can easily give you my opinion about that.
Structure of course:
3 years ft Bsc honours & RIBA part1 exemption
+ one year out work experience (optional, but counts later for the part 3 qualification)
+2 years ft Diploma in Architecture
modules:

Advantages: Warm friendly atmosphere, good courses, great pastoral care, good transport links - very friendly!! Disadvantages: Icy pavements in winter and the city is far from most other cities
...in and show you the ropes so to speak. So with a lot of support and advice, covering anything from health issues to financial issues the average student (if willing to seek help) would be able to sort out most things.
As for the courses themselves, they generally last for four years unless you study a course like medicine or architecture which last from between five and seven years. If you’re from England the courses might sound longer than the standard course is in England (which is generally about three years for a standard BSc or MA), but this is because a lot of Scottish students start university at 16 or 17 depending on how old they are when they complete their Highers and it also depends if they complete Advanced Highers or not. So the first year really is a recap of A levels for most students who studied in England for AS or A levels...

Advantages: Covers a variety of different subjects and finds links between them all, Popular course thus many tutorial sites available, 2 tutorials a month, residential school (optional), Excellent web resources Disadvantages: Strict marking standards, Little time to digest all the information before moving onto the next topic - a problem if you have been out of study for a while
...Study Guide' which will literally be your holy book for this subject.
Marking, I find, tends to be strict but in a way it's good because it prepares you for the units that will count towards a larger qualification (e.g. diploma/ degree). Tutors are quite flexible in the first year although I wouldn't recommend extending deadlines as a ritual because it puts you further and further behind for the next one.
Some areas of study:
Philosophy - A brief introduction into constructing arguments.
Art - studies of particular painters, their values, their works, interpretating meaning.
Architecture - A look a ancient Rome, the Colloseum, norms and values, class structures, heritage.
Religion - A look at some of the main religions, comparisons and contrasts, practices.
Literature - Poetry (different forms and eras), plays, novels, greek tragedies...

#About the department
The Civil and structural engineering courses have been rated as the 2nd best in the country for the second year running in the guardian. My course is part of the civil engineering, so my views of lectures and course will be about that aspect. Although any comments about the department in general will still apply as we share the same facilities.

Lecturers who have taught me are all part of the Groundwater Protection and Restoration Group (GPRG), this is a large research group which combines international quality scientific research, supported by engineering applications and wide dissemination.
