Advantages: masterpiece of German literature
Disadvantages: need several preconditions, written in old-German

...this book and have the preconditions I metioned above. I am sure you'll like this book, I am not sure if their exists any English version of Faust, but nevertheless I prefer to read books in their original version - in this case German- as the translation usually doesn't manage to get the authors intention and to translate some fixed espressions, which are used as well as quotations today, e.g. the title of my reviews...I'm giving 5* for a masterpiece of German literature and recommand to read it in the German original version. I'd be glad to get some feedback....... Read review

Advantages: Tries to imitate Dorothy L Sayers and Margery Allingham
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite hit the mark

...Introduction I'd read a couple of reviews about this book that claimed that David Roberts was a new Agatha Christie, so thought that it would be right up my street. The series, set in the 1930s, certainly smacks of a similar type of book, but perhaps because I was expecting it to be of the same sort of quality, I had high expectations that weren't met. Having said that, it was a readable enough book, if slightly irritating at times, and it certainly kept me occupied during a long and painful train journey up to Liverpool. The author David Roberts has written five books in the Lord Edward Corinth and Verity Brown series and I believe is about to publish a sixth. Although written this century, they are based in the 1930s just before the war. He became a full-time writer in 2000, after a series of jobs with publishing houses... Read review
