Advantages: easy to read Disadvantages: not appealing
I was bought this when I went to university. My auntie bought it me thinking that it would suddenly turn me into the next Deliah Smith or something but it didn't really have this effect on me at all! I didn't really use it and it was a good job it was quite a cheap buy so I didn't feel guilty for the fact it sat on my book shelf, hidden by all the huge text books I had to buy!
Who is it for?
This book is really very obviously aimed at students as you can tell by the title; "The New Students' Cook Book". When I first saw it I presumed that a cook book for students would contain very quick and simple recipes. When I was a student I didnt have much time for cooking and if I did want to cook something instead of order the usual pizza I didn't want to spend hours reading a recipe or fiddling around in the kitchen. Amazing guitar based blues-simple and memorable,Personally this is my favourite Rory Gallagher album/era and a great introduction to Rory's playing. As far as i know this is his first solo album.
The track listing is
One. Laundromat
Two. Just The Smile
Three. Hands Up
Four. For The Last Time
Five. It's You
Six. I'm Not Surprised
Seven. Can't Believe It's True
Eight. Gypsy Woman
Nine. It Takes Time
The recording quality is amazing,For then or now.It was released in 1971.
Every song has a unique feel to it and he gets an amazing array of tones and textures out of his strat. If you play the guitar and like the bleus im sure you'll like this album
The album makes Rory come across as a very traditional traveling bluesman ...
Advantages: cheap recipe ideas, helpful for beginner cooks, informal style Disadvantages: no pictures, some recipes are a bit too adventurous
Student life . . . takeaways, alcohol, nightclubs? Never really my cup of tea - I don't mind fish and chips but I was too careful with my money for them to be more than an occasional treat. And why did I buy this book when there were several other "student" recipe books? Two reasons, really - at £6.99, it was the cheapest option I could see, and it had a recipe for Yorkshire pudding. (Which I'd always wanted to master.)
It's a roughly square book, about 2cm thick, with a glossy cover - the sort of thing you'd just be able to wipe over with a damp cloth if food was spilt (provided ...
