Advantages: Lots of courses to choose from Disadvantages: 'Beans' system of course allocation - might not get courses you want
...The bizarre thing about doing a Geography degree at Edinburgh University is that you have to choose between human & physical Geography and yet it is exactly the same course.
Human Geography requires ABB A-Levels to get in and you must do four years, but you graduate with an MA. Physical Geography requires BCC to get in and if you got better A-Levels than that you can skip 1st year, however you only get a BSc. And I repeat, its exactly the same course - you can do any courses or half courses in second year or honours whichever degree you are registered for, and you can apply to change faculty if you want to. I found this irritating myself, as I got ABB in my A-Levels but had to do 1st year (which was a repeat of A-Level geography) whereas my friend who got in through clearing got direct entry into 2nd year Geography with A...

Advantages: Wonderful lecturers Disadvantages: it rains alot in Keele!
...I loved the Geography part of my degree at Keele. I specialised in Human Geography - the lecturers were great, the field trips fun (I went to Malta). The thing that struck me most was that the lecturers were really interested in what they were teaching and kept up to date with developments and wrote many papers.
The only bad thing was one of the historical geog modules, the lecturer was rather dry, but the other historical one I took (Scotland) was fantastic - I would recommend that to anyone!
The department are good at preparing you for the 'real' world with lots of group work and presentations, which gave you confidence and useful transerable skills.
The field trip to Malta was fantastic, we learnt so much without realising it and got a nice tan at the same time (oh and Malta still has Duty Free :)...

Advantages: Nice and varied with lots of options in the second and third years. Disadvantages: Can be considered as not specialised enough.
...I've just finished my first year of a BSc Geography Course at Sheffield University. Sheffield has one of the best geography departments in the country and I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year.
The geography department shares a building with the Town and Country Planning department and has it's own private library. This is particularly useful because it means that you can get away from it all and work without being interupted by someone doing zoology or something equally as pointless! It also means that everything you will need for you degree is contained in one building so you can go and see your tutors, work in the library and go to the toilet without having to leave the building!
The best thing about the course itself is that it is nicely varied. The first year, although you don't have any choice within the geography...
