...who are writing reviews about George Wimpey, it is my bad experience that is motivating me to write, but I am going to try and be as positive as I can.

After my ex destroyed my last house, it left me with a worry that I could move into someone else’s disaster zone, this is what made my mind up that I wanted to move into a brand spanking new home, where I wouldn't have to do anything.

It took almost 9 months to find a ...
...and done it, after all George Wimpey are a big company.

2 weeks prior to completion, Wimpey should contact you to have a "familiarisation visit", this is where you get to go into your property and check it to make sure its ok!!! and anything wrong can be fixed prior to completion. I had to contact them for my visit, as they didn't bother, this happened 4 days before completion.

This is a good opportunity to ... more

...million pound's worth of brand-spanking-new George Wimpy real-estate. Be warned, there's so much to tell you this is a really long review - but there's a gold star in it for anyone who makes it to the end! WHERE IT ALL STARTED The post Christmas blues seemed to appear this year about the 1st December (26 days earlier than normal!) and I just wasn't happy. I needed something new to focus on, my feet were getting itchy and the guttering needed replacing. ...
...so, we popped into the George Wimpey showhome (this was about 4:40pm and they close at 5:00pm) and the bubbly sales lady greeted us like a long-lost friend. We explained what we were looking for and she said [in a West Midlands accent] "oh, we've got lots of those. I've got a 4 bedroomed detached just under £200,000 and 3 other house styles all for less than £240,000". This seemed very cheap. Perhaps being squashed in has a price. "Go and have a ...

...write up my review of George Wimpey homes as the follow up to my Miller homes review (http://www.ciao.co.uk/Miller_Homes__Review_5782302). I'll keep exactly the same layout as the Miller home review to ensure a fair review of each against the same points. So here goes…. ===Buying the house=== It was around July/August of 2006 when my wife and I went out to look for our first home together. We were both set on a new build house and so whenever we ...
...found a new development by George Wimpey which had a house in our price range that we just loved. The area wasn't the best, and we knew that from the outset, but we were prepared to put that aside for this house. It was a 3 bedroom, spacious house, for the same price (£135k) as you could get a 1 bedroom cramped apartment in the centre of the city. We saw the show house, as the plot that we were about to buy was only 2 feet high at that time. The ...

George Wimpey new build house

Advantages: Great service, excellent choices
Disadvantages: Very hard to find a good mortgage rate on a new build - beware of this!!

My husband and I are just buying a Wimpey home, but so far have been plagued by obstacles at each turn. We planned to sell our 3 bed end terranced house, but Wimpey offered us a ridiculously low price for their Assisted Movers Scheme, which wouldn't even over our outstanding mortgage of 60%LTV. We have since decided to rent out our property and were able to get a great tracker mortgage from HSBC. We have spent the past 10 years going up our existing ...
...so a new build was the perfect choice. We managed to find a beautiful 4 bedroom detached house, that has a utility room, separate dining room and 2 ensuites(!). In the current climate, new build house prices have dramatically decreased and a property that was selling for £245k last year is now about £190k. The house builder companies are desparate to sell and a variety of incentives are on offer. Initially, we thought a 4 bed detached would be ...

seasoned purchaser

Advantages: reasonably priced, large range to suit all purchasers, good quality
Disadvantages: not usually much of a discount

Moved into first Wimpey home (£2000) in 1961 curtesy of my parents. I think they were the first national builder whose prices came within the range of ordinary working class people. They still live in that house -with no problems so Wimpey can't be all that bad! I bought a Wimpey semi, with my new husband in 1971(£4000). They allowed us to alter specification quite a lot in those days and we got discounts for omitting what became useless extras ...
...but buying off plan, which had proved a great move for my parents was not so kind to us as the reality of the plot was not quite up to expectations and we soon wanted to move out to gain a better outlook. LIved in a second hand Wimpey house for the next 27 years and finally bought new again 2004. This time the sales staff were elegant and well groomed. The show homes fully furnished with lots of 'expensive' extras but no minor alterations to their ...

Poor build quality

Advantages: Great location, lovely apartment, easy move.
Disadvantages: Appalling attention to detail and aftersales care.

Sales Staff at showhome at showhome ranged from incompetent to excellent. I quickly learnt who to deal with! Managed to snag the flat I wanted after another buyer dropped out and the sales staff called to let me know. Part exchange was given on my old house and solicitors fees paid. No problems with solicitor. £6000 of extras given. Inspection with friendly but ineficient site manager one week before moving in highlighted several areas for concern, ...

On moving in, I found: - boiler malfunctioning (no hot water and unable to repair due wrong part in December of all times!!) - sealant still being finished in bathroom and ensuite which I brushed againts and ruined pair of jeans - sctratches on all kitchen worktops - scratched hob - trickle vents on windows unable to close ...

Miller homes - Excellent all round

Advantages: Great service, before and after moving in
Disadvantages: None come to mind

I'm writing this review as I'm shocked by the poor reviews previously given about Miller homes. I've had quite the opposite experience with them. The other reviews seem to be from a number of years ago, so maybe they've sorted out their customer care issues since then, either that or theres a problem in only some regions, I noticed 2 of the 3 other reviews were from Edinburgh and I know Millers customer care is still very regional. Buying the house Anyway, onto my review. About 6 months ago myself and my wife to be set out looking for a new place having only bought our first house 18 months prior to that (George Wimpey new build - another review for another day! :-)). Having been looking around for a while, struggling to find anything in our price range near to where we wanted to be, and struggling to sell our house due to ...

CREAKY FLOORS PUT CURB ON SEX LIFE

Advantages: Very good designs, 'pretty houses', spacious rooms, bought out by Taylor Woodrow
Disadvantages: Poor workmanship through using contractors rather than staff

builders such as George Wimpey, Redrow, Wilcon and Westbury, Bryant build homes you can actually live in, size wise. I saw one Westbury home recently where I don?t think my partner would have been able to access the toilet because the space was so small, and he?s only 6ft 1 and average size. Almost all their houses are ?pretty? yet functional and so is the finishing. However, they use contractors not their own staff, and therefore when you visit their sites check for things like regular staff and safety measures on sites, look carefully at the show-home for flaws, and don?t be afraid to ask questions. Their homes are not timber-framed, unlike some companies and remember also, that since we bought our house, they are now a much bigger and stronger company. I hope, this will enable them to put things right before they go wrong ...
