Review of Geralds Game - Stephen King by sarah.onslow

Advantages: Good when you get into it
Disadvantages: Not like his other books

...When I first started reading this book I didn't really enjoy it as it is not like other books by the famous author. It all starts off with a man called Gerald Burlingame and his wife 'Jessie' in the bedroom of their summer house. Jessie is handcuffed to the bed in just a pair of knickers. This is one of Gerald's Games (Note the name of the book). Jessie has had enough of these sex games and asks Gerald to undo the handcuffs. He pretends that he hasn't heard her. He tries to force himself upon her, so she raises her legs and kicks him between the legs. The result of this is Gerald falls off the bed saying 'heart'. Jessie thinks at first that he is only pretending to have a heart attack, but when he doesn't get up Jessie fears the worst. As you read on you are not sure if Jessie will get out of the handcuffs. She prays for someone to come... Read review

No Ball Control
Review of Geralds Game - Stephen King by rocking

Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: Takes a while to get into

...This was a rather hard book to get into. Imagine the scene Gerald and Wife Jessie go down to their remote holiday home and Gerald handcuffs Jessie to the bed to start their game (this is more of a contact sport). Jessie isn't in the mood for Geralds game and gives Gerald a kick in the penalty spot. Gerald has a heart attack and dies (this is on about page 30) and Jessie is left their chained to the bed. Good concept but where does the story go from there ? How can King fill another 300 pages with a woman chained to a bed ? Quite easily, the master does it again chosing a different story telling format with the rest of the bood taken up with Jessies flashbacks, dreams and her escape attempts. This book is very descriptive and well written and makes a chnage from Kings usual format of books where he often uses charactershe alreay... Read review

The game goes wrong
Review of Geralds Game - Stephen King by wiggglypufff

Advantages: Quite a unique story line compared with the average horror
Disadvantages: Graphic detail...you almost feel the pain

...I hate to admit that although i very much love the works of Stephen King, i am more inclined to watch a film based on one of his novels than pick up a book of his and read it. Without a doubt, Stephen King has the most superb imagination leading to amazing story content, but i just find his style of writing extremely hard work to read. However, i found Geralds Game easy to read, compared to his other novels, and i would recommend it highly to any fan of Stephen King or horror writers in general. Geralds Game is about a couple who go away for a short break to a secluded spot in the countryside. Geralds game is bondage. Gerald handcuffs his partner to the bed posts for sexual pleasure. She decides she wants the game to stop but Gerald wont stop. He wants to keep the game going. She kicks him hard in the chest to get him off. He falls... Read review
