After having very short and spiky hair for most of my teens and early 20's, I decided earlier this year that I need a change and decided to grow my hair.
When it got to a certain length, I purchased a pair of £20 straighteners from a supermarket. Being the 'typical' man, I decided that straighteners were straighteners, and I was not going to pay over the odds for a product that would no doubt do the job just as well.
After getting sick and tired of waiting about 5 minutes for my straighteners to heat up, and about 45 minutes trying to get my hair straight, I decided on the recomendation of my friend to purchase a pair of the GHD mini thin straighteners.
They come in a neatly presented box, with quite stylish packaging. The box had instructions on how to use and safety advice, which I would recomend reading due to the heat factor.
The straighteners themselves, heat up in probably around 8-10 seconds, and so saved me a lot of time. I was already impressed. They are specifically designed to work at a heat that will only straighten your hair and not burn it, as some straighteners are known to overheat.
When I started to run them through my hair, my hair immediatly straightened, with none of the fuss of my previous straighteners, and I didnt need to do each piece of hair more than once.
They are very easy to use, with a small frame which is easy to grasp in your hand. The thin streamline heaters, are perfect if your hair is shorter, like mine, but also work just as well on long hair. The cord is long enough to stretch a good few feet, so you dont have to hover around the socket (as I did with my last pair). The actual irons are ceramic, which works a lot better than other types. Because of the ceramic irons, there is less chance of your hair being ruined, and they left my hair feeling very soft. For the women, or men who like something a bit different, you can even use these straighteners to curl your hair.
After using this product only once, I could totally understand how different brands can justify charging different prices, some of which seem extortionate. I paid £89.99 for mine, and although I begrudgingly handed the money over to the cashier, it was one of the best purchases I have made. If i straighten my hair in the evening, I still wake up with it nearly perfect, ready for uni the next day. Thats how great they work. They also made a job that took me nearly an hour with my last straighteners, and turned into something that can be done in 5 minutes.
There used to be a lot of stigma surrounding men using hair straighteners, but I would recomend these to anyone, male or female, as they are a brilliant, easy to use product. They work fantastically and I have had absolutely no problems. There is nothing bad to say about them.
