Hey, i've recently finished a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and am not sure whether i want to do that anymore so am chilling and working part time while i figure things out! It's all good!

A lot of people class GHDs as the top brand in straighteners, but as I had never used any GHDs before, I was slightly disbelieving as to their performance. However, I soon discovered once I owned a pair that they deserve the praise and fantastic reviews they receive. They are a stunning piece of technology, which have none of the faults or criticisms which some other brands have.
I was given my straighteners for Christmas, but wanted to really test them properly before writing my review. I didn't want to just write away with my rose-tinted glasses on!! I have to say though that I needn't have waited, I have not been disappointed with them.
I have naturally curly/wavy hair, which once blow dried seems to triple in size, and becomes a big, fluffy, frizzy mess. Over the years I have despaired so much, and was so thrilled when I bought my first pair of straighteners, only to be really quite disappointed
with their performance. I can still remember the feeling I had when I used them and found they did little to my hair. Mind you, I was a lot younger, and didn't spend a fortune on them! Anyway, back to the point of the review…….. My hair is very difficult to control, and other straighteners don't have a lasting effect on it. For example going outside would usually result in it reverting back to how it looked after being dried. However these GHDs are different. Once my hair has been straightened, that is it; the GHDs can go back in my wardrobe until I next wash my hair. My hair stays straight after going outside, even if it is a bit windy or there is a bit of moisture in the air. I try not to let my hair get wet, but if it does it only gains a very, very slight wave, nothing too drastic. It also retains its 'just straightened look' after sleeping, which I think is amazing. Day after day my hair remains straight, and doesn't develop the kinks it once used to.
I also like the fact that you only need to go over each section of hair once, which is a lot better for your hair as you are not subjecting it to endless heat. I separate my hair into sections, working from the underneath up to the top, and take small sections at a time. I run the straighteners through nice and slowly, and voila! that section is done and I move onto the next. It really is that simple. The plates are sprung, which is a very nice feature as this stops them catching and pulling on the hair, which used to happen a lot when I got to the ends of my hair. This feature was a bit strange at first, as it doesn't feel like you are holding the hair tight enough, but after this initial surprise I came to find it was a very clever design.
I love how soft and smooth my hair is after I have used them. My hair almost feels weightless, and seems so much more manageable. It almost seems like my hair is like the models' hair you see on adverts for shampoos!! These straighteners are also very good for creating curly hairstyles, which seems like a ridiculous statement to make about straighteners, but they really work! I prefer making my hair curly with these rather than my curlers. You can create quite loose curls, or tight curls, and it even works on my hair which is quite long (comes a good few inches below my shoulders).
The straighteners heat up in no time at all, and maintain an even heat throughout the plates. There are no heat settings to fiddle with, which at first seemed a bit weird, but they work superbly as they are, so you wouldn't want to change the heat settings. My sister was given a pair at Christmas too, and her hair is completely different to mine, very fine and flyaway. Yet the straighteners produce perfect results with her hair. So they really are suitable for all hair types.
A couple of other features of the product is that they have a sleep mode - that is, if they are not used for 30 minutes, the product turns off and goes to sleep. And it also has a shiver mode, which means that if the room temperature goes below 8 degrees Celsius, the straighteners will shut down to protect themselves. How exactly this works I don't know, but it sounds clever!! There is also the added bonus of having a universal voltage, so they will work wherever you are in the world by automatically working with the local voltage.
I realise that they are a lot of money, however they have a good reputation as being very reliable and long lasting. I really hope this proves to be true, as I was getting fed up of having to replace mine every couple of years, regardless of which brand I chose. I hope I now have a breakthrough with these!
As long as they continue to perform well, and last a long time, I don't think I would hesitate to purchase more GHDs in the future. I will certainly be recommending them to my friends, and letting them have a test drive so they can see for themselves!

Good review.....These things caused me a real headache at Christmas, not because I have used them, but because my son wanted to buy some for his girlfriend and had me surfing the net night after night looking for the cheapest. They were like Gold dust to find.

Advantages: You don't need to re-straighten time after time, can create thing whispy curls very easily. Disadvantages: Damages hair, very expensive, yuo can get better for your money with babyliss.
