...about them.
GHD The Company-
GHD is a relatively new company. They were born in 2001. They aim to be the best and I believe they are. They refuse to launch a product unless they believe it does exactly what it says on the tin. The product must be the best. They are currently working on some wireless straightners and at the moment can either make them look fabulous but not work as well or work amazing but look bad and ... ...tat!
The GHD Original Medium Size Flat Irons-
GHD have launches a few variations of their medium sized flat irons; pink, pure dark etc, so when we say original we mean the typical looking ones, not the first ones. The original irons have been re-launched 4 times now and the first 3 generations are no longer available so when referring to the original irons we now mean from the generation 4. Every time they are re-launched ... more
My experience-
I have very curly hair. It had an extreme tendency to frizz. Unless I do something with it the only way I could leave the house would involve a paper bag! This never bothered me when I was younger, I was oblivious but when I hit puberty how I looked started to matter. My auntie bought me some straightners (I'm not sure what make they were) but I got hooked. Admittedly the ones I was using at the time were not very good but they made my hair slightly better. I then started to borrow my mums which were better but would not make my hair sleek and smooth. When I was 14 my mum bought me some GHD's. These were the generation 3 ones. I LOVE them. i still have them now. 4 years later. I have never had a problem with them. They have NEVER BLOWN UP (They have been developed more now so dont anyway, it was the older generations that did) and still work to the same standard. I now work in a salon where we use GHD's all the time and due to my training I know a lot about them.

The product must be the best. They are currently working on some wireless straightners and at the moment can either make them look fabulous but not work as well or work amazing but look bad and will not launch until they have made them both work and look excellent. They care about their products. This is why they have done so well. They are not producing tat!
Every time they are re-launched they have been upgraded. On most hair types you will only need to straighten that section once.
How they look-
The generation 4 medium sized flat irons are about 1.5 inches wide and about 13inches long. They are not bulky. They are stylish. They are a matt black with orange writing saying GHD on them. They have orangey/yellow coloured plates. They have a small red led light on them which flashes when are hot enough and are ready to use. The light is not on when the straightners are off. The light on the generation 4 irons will turn yellow when on standby. They have a small on/off switch inside them next to the official GHD hologram to prove they are real (as there have been a lot of fakes).
What type of hair they are for-
Suitable for ALL hair types. MEN AND WOMEN! If you have very short hair they can help you spike it up. Especially when sprayed with a little bit of hairspray before hand.
How long they take to heat up-
About 20seconds
How long they take to cool-
About 15mins
How they work-
The irons work with heat alone, rather than tension. The heat breaks up the bonds in your hair and makes all the molecules stand in line, when your hair cools the line remains straight. This does cause slight damage to your hair but GHD also have Thermal protector sprays for your different hair type. When the hair is wet the bonds are broken again and return to their natural position.
The ceramic heaters are the same size as the plates, so unlike other flat irons, there are NO "HOT SPOTS".
The sophisticated control circuitry means the optimum temperature (250 °C) is maintained throughout the styling process. This basically means that as your hair gets hot, heat is not lost to your hair making the irons cooler. They stay 250°C all the time. A bit confusing.
The plates bevel. If u push on them they will move. This helps stops a crease forming when initially applied to the hair. It also helps create rounder curls.
What you can do with them-
Straighten Curl Twist Flick Wave Bounce and Lift. (They come with a DVD which shows you how to create all these looks yourself. Its very easy once you get the hang of it)
The difference between GHD's and other flat irons- Standby mode. The generation 4 irons have motion sensors in them so that when they have not been moved for 15minutes they automatically go onto standby mode. During standby they irons cool down. This is a major benefit as it stops you burning down your house! You don't have to worry about not turning them off. The standby mode is identified by the LED light going from flashing red to flashing yellow. Longer lead. They now have a 2metre lead. You know longer have to style your hair next to the skirting bored! Bevelling plates as mentioned above. No hot spots Not bulky. Very light Can curl, flick etc. They are round around the plates to create the curl Plates go right to the end of the straightners so you can get to your roots! Work on heat alone, not tension. The plug has a screw in the middle of it. When you unscrew this you can pull the English plug part off to revel a two pronged plug which you can use abroad They will reach 250°C all around the world. They have a universal adapter to where you might find your hairdryer is slow on holiday your straightners wont be cooler.
Other GHD Products- Pure/ Dark irons Pink irons Salon size irons (large width for longer, thicker hair) Mini irons (small width of shorter hair) Thermodynamics- Shampoos, conditioners, thermal protectors, styling products, finishing products Spa range Brushes
Value for money-
I have used mine almost every day for 4 years. I always think if you are going to use something a lot then its worth spending a lot on them if they are going to be good quality. They are by no means cheap. They retail between £95-£150. They also come with a 2year guarantee so you don't have to worry too much in case you break them.
Would I recommend them to potential buyers-
100% yes! Every time. Once you've used GHD you will never go back!
WARNING- OBVIOUSLY THEYA RE HOT SO BE CAREFL WHILST HANDLING SO NOT TO BURN YOURSELF OR THE SURFACES YOU REST THEM ON
Advantages: Make your hair look great Disadvantages: they can blow up
...was devastated)so I called the GHD company and explained what had happened & they said that my warranty had expired and I would have to pay £50 to have them fixed which really annoyed me as I paid £110 twice over for them and it didn't seam to bother GHD at all & if I pay that much I expect them to have a longer life than one year. To be fair they are great and make your untamed hair look fabulous but due to the cost to have them mended I have chucked ... ...£95 - £150 from the GHD web page or most of your local hair dressers, I'm not sure if they sell them in places like Boots yet!
WOULD I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT & ARE THEY GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY?????
Yes and No as they are a great product and they do the job but they don't do it for long as I have had two pairs blow up on me in three years. So are they good value for money? NO as they have a tendency to blow up on you.
So if you do buy a pair or currently ...

Advantages: Temperature goes up to 250 degrees!! Disadvantages: Price & Mine blew up
I saved up for months to buy these as GHDs are so expensive.
I got them because my hair is very very thick so it takes forever to staighten and I thought they would be much better than my old babyliss ones. And they did!
They worked great and my hair was straight in no time!!
After about 7 months they blew up!!
I was so sad but luckily I still had the warranty and they were fixed for free.
But I went on a look for some other straighteners incase ... ...for about £40 worked just as well!!
Anyway the straighteners are ceramic plated hair irons which straighten you hair very quickly and can go up to a 250 degrees! But obviously if you put them on high like that Its gonna hurt so much if you burn yourself so be careful with them! I've tried to curl my hair with these to and they work well for curling.
I don't really think they are worth it.
Unless you are willing to spend about £110 on them knowing ...

Review of GHD Original Styling Iron
Advantages: very quick, smooth and easy to use- for super straight hair Disadvantages: the price
This product is expensive, usually retailing at just below one hundred pounds but it does work exceedingly well.
The straighteners become hot within seconds and reach very high temperatures- which can be dangerous, but means the product is fantastic for use in a hurry, the cord is long which is a useful feature.
The irons work like a dream, each section of hair only needs to be ironed once in order to acheive straight and silky hair- and the effects ... ...the cost these are worth the investment.
In addition, the product is superbly simple to create curls, waves and flicks- while it can take a bit of practice the effects are spectacular and far easier than traditional curling irons.
You do need to take care of these irons, due to the high temperatures reached - they can cause severe burns and cause fires if left on. ...
