When it comes to beauty products, make-up, hair care and the like I am a somewhat fickle individual. I have cupboards full of things I’ve used once or twice but I always seem to find an excuse to buy more. I’m sure when I go shopping for such items the sensible part of my brain just shuts down and I become an advertisers dream, seduced by rows of eye-catching packaging for things I don’t just want but obviously really really need.
I bought GHD Sea Sprayhairspray at the hairdressers; I find I become especially vulnerable at the hairdressers. It’s bad enough in Boots where I can just pick and choose what
I want to buy but in the hairdressers where a plastic pumped, collagen filled botox beauty is persuading me that I simply cannot live without said product, I find it all too easy to give in. I’m sure I am not the only one who just finds it easier to say yes than to come up with excuses for not buying something and when the sensible part of my brain has gone to sleep and all that remains is the shopping psyche then I am like putty in their hands. As I look upon the rows of hair products I already own, I am hardly surprised at how I have come to accumulate such a collection.
Although I am a slave to my GHDs, I have never been an avid fan of their other hair products. I think this was mostly down to trying one once and ending up with oil-slick hair that took days to return to normal. However this was a few years back now and I am not one to hold grudges so I decided to forgive and forget this unfortunate incident and went ahead to purchase GHD Sea Spray.
I am a big fan of the beach and most importantly, the sea. I am therefore in a constant battle with my hair to prevent it from the damaging effects of salt from the sea water. My hair tends to become dry easily and tangles, I get split ends within weeks of having a hair cut so am always on the lookout for products that can improve the appearance of my hair or better still, prevent damage in the first place.
The product comes in a 150ml container costing £12.95. Not a massive amount of product for the price but it’s about average compared to other similar salon standard products. It is described as a ‘sophisticated matt texture spray for curls and surf style waves’. It also claims to ‘provide long lasting firm hold… it revives movement in all hair types and gives you sexy waves with every use’
My hair is naturally wavy when I leave it to dry naturally. As a beach bum I love the sexy ‘just stepped out the sea’ look, although it’s hard to pull off when you’ve got bits of seaweed stuck to you and you’re in sunny old England instead of Barbados. So in that respect I need all the help I can get to achieve the desired look. That’s where this product comes in. It can be used on wet hair to provide texture to wavy hair without letting it frizz and keeping it under control. As an added bonus it also guards against the sun’s harmful UVA rays.
The product was really easy to use and spayed freely and easily, instead of being directed onto one small area it disperses well when you spray it, allowing good coverage without making one area a sticky mess. It smells alright, not amazing, it’s quite a salony type smell if you know what I mean?! I found my hair was a lot softer than if I hadn’t used the product, it was a lot easier to get a brush through it than when it is in it’s usual tangled mess state. It did seem to separate my wavy hair to give a soft but tidy look and it held my hair in place well.
I didn’t need to use much of the product to get a good result. Just one spray worked throughout my hair was enough to give the desired result, so as far as the price goes it would actually be quite economical as this one bottle will last me for months.
This probably won’t be a product that I’ll stay loyal too, it’s not a miracle product but it does what it claims it will do. It won’t really stand out in your bathroom cupboard as the packaging is a tad on the boring side but should we really worry about the packaging. As much as I’d like to think the contents are more important, I am a typical girl so am drawn to pretty things rather than sensible things.
Overall a good product that will last a long time and gives the desired result without any unwanted side effects.
