I have always been a great fan of the Ghost fragrance range. So I was delighted to hear that they had brought out a new fragrance called Ghost Sweetheart. I was hoping that I would be won over by the aroma of the fragrance like I had been with most of the other ones. I have already gone through several bottles of original Ghost, which is a firm favourite of mine. I also have Ghost Deep Night and Anticipation although I have never been a big fan of Cherish and Serenity.
So I popped into my local Superdrug to sample the delights of the new fragrance. As soon as I walked into the fragrance department it was facing me in a big display. I immediately picked up the tester bottle and sprayed it on my wrist. I left it for a second for the alcohol to wear off and was extremely pleased with the scent. I decided yes this had to be the latest addition to my ever-growing perfume collection.
It is
a light fragrance, which is a great daytime fragrance but would not be out of place in the evening. It is being advertised as a modern oriental fragrance that touches the spirit of today's young romantic woman.
It is a fresh fragrance with notes of sweet lemon, pineapple and spearmint combined with a haze of white flowers and a sensual woody base to create a fragrance, which is feminine, sensual and enchanting.
***** Scents of a fragrance *****
To understand how a fragrance is broken down into the different scents you need to be aware of the fragrance pyramid. This illustrates how there are three layers to a fragrance not just one scent. These are called top notes, middle notes and base notes. As one layer of notes disappears another layer appears to the senses.
** Top Notes ***
These are the first notes of a fragrance, which are smelt as soon as the fragrance is sprayed onto the skin. Top notes consist of small light molecules, which evaporate quickly. Therefore not lasting long before the middle notes take over. They form a person's initial impression of a perfume and are very important in the selling of a perfume. They are also called head notes.
**** Middle notes *****
These are the scent of a fragrance that appears just before the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds from the heart or the main body of the fragrance. They act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time, They are also called heart notes.
**** Base notes *****
This is the scent of the perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and deep and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application. *** Notes of Sweetheart ****
Top notes - sweet lemon, spearmint, pineapple and green foliage.
Middle notes - rose, jasmine, and helitrope.
Base notes - sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss, caramel, tonka beans, amber and vanilla.
**** The bottle *****
The perfume is contained in a tall thin bottle very similar in still to the original Ghost perfume. The perfume is a peachy colour with a glass lid to the bottle. It includes the usual spray top function to allow the fragrance to emerge from the bottle in a light mist. This insures even spraying of the scent over the targeted area.
***** Prices ***
The perfume is available in 3 different sizes. They are priced as follows with the 30ml bottle on offer in Superdrug from which the prices list are currently from.
30ml - £18 but normally £23 so a great saving of £5. 50ml- £28.95 75ml - £44.95.
These prices are slightly higher than the other scents in the Ghost range but are still very competitive against prices in other stockists.
I was very excited to find out that when I made my purchase of a 50ml bottle I received a free 200ml body lotion in the Ghost Sweetheart scent. This was free according to the assistant if I bought a 50ml or a 75ml bottle.
The body lotion had a light fragrance which was very subtle when applied but lasted a reasonable amount of time. It was very smooth and silky on the skin when applied. I love getting free stuff.
*** Gift sets ****
Currently there isn't a gift set in this scent available as yet. I imagine that this will become available for Christmas. In past years the Ghost gift sets have contained a 30ml bottle of EDT and a body lotion. They normally retail for the same price as a 3oml bottle therefore you get the body lotion free, so they are great value for money. This is something I will be keeping an eye out for.
A similar scent currently available on the market is Eternity Woman Summer by CalvinKlein. This has similar notes to the fragrance.
**** Top tips for buying a fragrance **** · Always try the perfume on your skin. These tester cards are great for if you spray one you find is disgusting so you can chuck it away and don't smell gross yourself. However the way a scent smells on a card can be very different to how it will smell on your skin. Remember that the fragrance adapts and mixes to the scent of your own skin. That is why a scent may smell gorgeous on your friend but could be disgusting on yourself. So it is best to spray it on a card first then if you like it spray on yourself before any decisions are made. · When you have tested a fragrance make sure that you leave the perfume for a few minutes for the different notes to appear. If you rush to make a decision upon liking the top notes you may regret it if you cant stand the base notes. · Don't spray too many different scents in one go. They will all emerge into one and your senses will be disorientated. · Try to see if there are any little tester samples available. Shops are often sent them to promote new lines. These are great to keep in your handbag and can help you decide whether you really like the perfume. · If you really like the perfume and will use a lot of it then it is always more economical to purchase the 50ml or 75ml bottle.
**** Overall ****
I really love the aroma of this fragrance and will be buying more once I have used it all. Currently I am using this as a daytime perfume but it would be suitable for evening scent.
