It was also very easy to fit, only being a two-wire job, unlike some humbuckers. When plugged into an overdriven amp, it rocks like a very rocky thing indeed. ... more

I bought this as replacement neck pickup for my recent Gibson SG purchase and am very pleased with the result. The bass response is breathtaking and that's the real improvement.. But the treble and mids are still there in spades. The remaining factory fitted bridge pickup now sounds thin and weedy in comparison. It was also very easy to fit, only being a two-wire job, unlike some humbuckers. When plugged into an overdriven amp, it rocks like a very rocky thing indeed.
In short, a much thicker, beefier and hotter replacement for the relatively weaker sounding factory fitted pickup but one that still manages to retain a vintage 50's/early 60's vibe to it.
Darned pricey though (£75 plus with a nickel cover) but you expect this from Gibson, don't you?

love it. As with all good quality Les Pauls, the body is mahogany, allowing fantastic sustain and a depth of tone that is rarely equalled by other types of guitar.
If this isn't enough, Epiphone capped this model off with the addition of genuine GibsonBurstbucker pickups, a Burstbucker2 model at the neck and a slightly hotter Burstbucker 3 at the bridge. These pickups are Gibsons attempt recreating its original 1950s classic, using unpolished alnico magnets, and leaving the coils unpotted for a little more acoustic response. It also makes sure that both the coils are wound unevenly. The downside is that they lose a little of their ability to cancel humming, but this is more than made up for with fantastic tone with more bite.
