After 40+ years as a guitar player, I was finally able to obtain a brand new 2007 L-5 CES Natural in early 2007. Having played thin body semi-hollows for most of my life, it was a new venture. The guitar is "BIG" and heavier than most other guitars. It is probably better played sitting down rather than standing. The fit and finish is superb and I must say that I prefer the Natural finish over VSB. The sound quality is very good but doesn't seem to have the "extended range overtones" like my L-5 CT does. This was a big surprise given the larger, deeper body and greater internal volume. It reinforces to me that mathematical calculations, materials, construction techniques are only part of the equation differentiating very good guitars from great ones! To be fair, however, I must say that the tonal quality difference between the L-5 CES and the L-5 CT is primarily significant while playing unplugged and much less noticeable when amplified.
