A short guide to talking like a Pirate...
Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists - Gideon Defoe by  clownfoot

Advantages: Probably the funniest thing you'll ever read...
Disadvantages: ...so funny you may cough up a hernia!

...destroying the Holy Trilogy - is just a little too silly to feature in the cool league tables. However, the most little known fact of all is that Pirates are the coolest group of sea-farers ever to use the word(s) 'lubbers' or 'scurvy knaves', which pretty much makes them the coolest group of characters ever to sail the high seas. Pirates are so cool that even when some feckless wonder decides to create a 'talk like a pirate day', rather than mock such a craptastic idea the public joins in heartily. So when Gideon Defoe decided to write a silly little book about pirates, simply to impress a girl, no one thought he'd embark on a story that can well be considered a work of genius. And by concentrating on a pirate adventure he also conspired to raise the happiness factor of the world by some 25 percent… When they're not sitting idly... Read review

Gideon - The Real Vampire Story
Review of Gideon - Stephen Laws by  joannavos

Advantages: New concept of vampire story
Disadvantages: Can seem strange to start with when you think you are reading the end first

...This book has quite an interesting layout. It starts with the Gideon the bad-guy getting shot by three of the unfortunate women he has been tormenting. The assumption you make is that you are being told the end at the beginning. I never read the last page in case I die before I finish the book, although I know plenty of people who do! So to start with I didn’t like this book very much. But I stuck with it while it described some of the other characters in the book, and before long I was hooked. I wanted to know who the strange young men were, who were driven to kill each other. Although sickened by their murderous deeds, they were absolutely powerless to disobey the commands from within their heads. They had the ‘Rage’. They had to find and kill ‘The Other’. So they could be ‘The One’... Read review

Everyman Crusoe
Review of Robinson Crusoe - Daniel Defoe by  nicolemorgan

Advantages: inspirational story. significant novel in english literature
Disadvantages: can be tedious at times.

...Robinson Crusoe is often celebrated as the first novel in English literature with Defoe utilizing material from a wide range of discourses in constructing the narrative of the novel. Perhaps at its most basic level, Robinson Crusoe is an adventure story which depicts one man’s struggle against physical adversity. However, Defoe has also made use of further sources including travel literature, conduct or guide literature and also the spiritual autobiography. The basic plot of Robinson Crusoe is widely known; the novel explores the voyages and adventures of Crusoe, his shipwreck and subsequent life marooned alone. When shipwrecked he meets a native who he names Friday and the novel follows their relationship and Crusoe’s return to civilisation. As an adventure story, Robinson Crusoe is a tale of risky enterprises and daring... Read review
