...his Gigabyte board is a Flip Chip Pin Grid Array board, using the VIA 594x Apollo Pro Family AGPset chipset, in an ATX format with FireWire support (hence the '1394') in the product name.
This latter feature, in particular, is unusual. Where many manufacturers might be tempted to add sound, modem, NIC or even SCSI support, Gigabyte is the first we've seen to add FireWire to this form factor, courtesy of a TI chipset. Also known as IEEE1394 (in deference to Apple) and i.LINK by Sony, this FireWire interface could be described as 'USB, but faster'. ...Having no idea which Motherboard we needed to buy, we looked on the internet to see what was going for what price.
Having used Gigabye Motherboards in the past and never had any trouble with them the wisest thing to do was to keep to Gigabyte.
We decided on the GigabyteGA-945P-DS3 purely on the features it offered.

Advantages: lots of features Disadvantages: cluttered design
...The GigabyteGA-8ANXP-D is the best motherboard out there in the market today, it also has a lot of package including DPS, and a Wireless LAN card. I buy this mobo for my new Prescott 2.8 GHZ hoping that this will be the most suitable partner for my processor. The motherboard includes 4 Serial ATA cables for use with either the native ICH6 supported connections, or those provided by the additional Silicon Image SATA RAID controller.
The package also includes a single IDE cable, single floppy cable with a color gray, There are 9 USB 2.0 ports which supports IEE1394 devices. You will never run out of USB ports with this motherboard. The installation guide is quick and easy to follow especially for those novice users including me. This motherboard really has a product manual and documentation.The only bad thing that I can say about...
