Advantages: rich in symbolism, giving a good insight into the zietgeist of the time Disadvantages: slow paced and often dull, Crusoe is often hard to sympathise with
Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, depicts an 18th century trader gripped by a wanderlust who finds himself shipwrecked on a tropical island where he is forced to cultivate hidden survival skills, re-evaluating his own values in the process. The story is told retrospectively by Crusoe and written in a style which is extremely dry and thorough, and much of it is very tedious to read through.
Crusoe busies himself not just with the business of survival but with technological and economic advancement and the pursuit of luxury, all of which is documented exhaustively. The reader is subjected to endless painstaking descriptions of Crusoe's trial and error attempts to bake clay pots, breed goats and sow corn, interspersed with jaunts across the deserted island as Crusoe does his best to stave off loneliness and boredom. I love squash and always try to have a couple of bottles in the house. I generally like the fruit and barley ranges and drink Robinsons (when on offer) and Tesco. When I went shopping a while ago I was looking for squash and noticed the new Robinsons Be Natural range was on offer for 99p per bottle and I'd seen the adverts on telly too (with the little bird that comes home and drinks his squash with the man clock!) so I thought I'd try it out.
I bought the apple and strawberry flavour and it comes in a 600ml bottle, I normally get 1 litre so it is smaller, and it states you get 17 servings out of it but I couldn't say for sure as I use big glasses and I think it depends on how strong you like your squash. The bottle (and the advert) state clearly that it is squash made from naturally sourced ingredients but there is nothing else to ...

Manufacturer's product description
Robinson's language and expression is tight, precise and captures the world, the existence of her narrator, a 76 year old in man in the last days of a long and eventful life, perfectly. Too perfectly, one might argue; at least one understands why there was a gap of a quarter century between her debut and this, only her second work of fiction.
