The petrol costs are really good and insurance is ok. As long as you have a full motor vehicle licence you don't even need to do any bike training.
An excellent alternative to the motor vehicle for short journeys to work.
Advantages: Fast, reliable, economical Disadvantages: Perhaps lacking in a bit of street-cred
My Gilera 180 Runner is now 18 months old - I'm impressed!
Initially I had lots of starting problems which were badly dealt with by the dealer, but turned out to be a faulty battery.
The machine is very fast (will cruise at 70, and will cope with average motorway speeds unless its windy!), and will beat anything away from the lights (if you're into that sort of thing) including most geared motorcycles.
The weather protection is excellent, leaving ... ...lights! Don't think that the heater vents will warm you - they don't!
The seat is a little too low for me, but suits most riders. I've regularly used it two-up, with only a little loss of performance.
I get in excess of 100mpg even riding it pretty hard.
Apart from the initial problems I've never had any mechanical problems.
The storage space (underseat) is a bit mean, you need a smallish helmet for it to take anything other than the helmet.

Advantages: fast, good handling Disadvantages: Paranoid about it being stolen or damaged!
...and cycle or use the Gilera Runner when the weather is OK. My better half also uses the Runner for commuting to the city. We're both very impressed still! It has an excellent pick up on speed and can keep up with many other bigger bikes. It's great around town, very mobile and versatile.
I've also been riding the Runner for short motorway stretches. This has gone OK so far but is a bit worrying because of the wind - I tend to get a bit battered ... ...would be to stick to A roads, I guess. In my opinion, the bike is definitely not suitable for extended motorway driving. Perhaps I am too light and that's the reason I wobble so much?! (:-)) The petrol tank is far bigger than either of the other two "bikes" I have owned (Vespa 125ET and Honday PX50!) which is a bonus - I think it holds nearly 9litres.
The only other comment I would like to make is that I am paranoid about the bike being stolen; ...

Advantages: Fast, economical, reliable Disadvantages: bit unstable
Had my Runner for a few months now, and am VERY impressed. Use it as a winter hack/rainy day bike instead of my R1.
It returns about 75mpg, the speedo reads between 85-92mph flat out, depending on conditions.
Mine is used mainly on fast A roads, so spends most of the time 75mph+, so no doubt with town use it would be better.
Acceleration is brisk, leaves most cars, and small capacity bikes from standstill, so very good for what it is.
Mine seems ... ...both feet flat on the floor at standstill.
Has got heater vents in, lokk good but dont do anything. Mine never gets hot, the temp gauge always reads low, and the air coming the vents is best described as tepid.
The handling feels a bit unstable, probably to do with the smaller wheels, BUT, i am used to sportsbikes, so most riders probably wont notice it.
I did change the standard exhaust for a ThunderRoad race can, which was ridiciously loud, ...
