I have, for many years, been a committed user of an electric shaver. This is mainly due to the self inflicted mutilation that makes it look like I've gone ten rounds with Freddy Krueger followed by a rummage through a poison ivy bush.
Unlike my muscles, stubble grows on me at quite an alarming rate, and by mid afternoon the likeness to Grizzly Adams (for those of you old enough to remember) is all too apparent.

After paying for my purchase, and thanking the cashier in my deepest manly voice, I headed home. Panic stations ensued - I needed shaving cream!! Routing through the cupboard I came across my long lost Gillette lemon & lime shaving foam, that had not been used for many years as signified by the rust around the bottom of the can. No excuse, time now to take the plunge.
The shaver itself comes in that horrible plastic packaging. You know the stuff - impossible to tear, and when you try to cut through it with scissors you end up slicing through your fingers. But wait, good old Gillette - turn it over and there's perforations that you press through in the outline of the razor. Clever thinking and I was able to get the razor out without injury.
It comes with a very snazzy clear plastic with black trim storage tray to house your razor and the handle slots nicely between two protruding raised pieces.
The card inside opens up to give a description of what it can do. Here I began to worry. It pointed out that it has 5 blade technology. Previously with one blade I'd be in a mess, how the hell would I cope with 5? To add insult to injury, there is a separate 6th blade when you turn it over. This is known as a trimmer blade and is used for shaving by your nose, trimming sideburns and to shape facial hair.
It's a wonder I hadn't been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.
Unlike any other razor I had hacked away with before, this is battery powered - cool - and emits micro-pulses (vibrates!!) for 'an incredible shaving experience'.
An 'AAA' Duracell battery comes with the kit and you insert into the razor by turning the end counterclockwise and pulling gently. Pop the battery in and slot the end back on by pushing and turning clockwise. This was easily done.
The razor is a nice weight and has rubberized grips on both sides and at the front making it easy to hold. The rest of the handle is a composite plastic, with bits of orange with the word 'Fusion'. On the back is a copper coloured on/off button with a battery indicator light above it which lights up when the battery is running low. It is also shower safe.
The blade cartridge itself has a blue lubricating strip at the top, followed by 5 blades then a ridged orange soft plastic piece. On the reverse, at the top is the single blade I referred to earlier. The cartridge is simply removed for changing by pressing a large button just below the head.
Time to use it. Having covered my face in lemon & lime and lathered up nicely, my eight year old burst into the bathroom and collapsed in a fit of giggles at my Santa impression. I asked him sternly to leave as any mistake on my part could have left me in a pool of blood.
Deep breath, I pressed the on/off button. It has an auto cut-off which turns the appliance off after around 8 minutes. I could hear and feel the very gentle vibrations but they must have been tiny as you could not visually see the blades moving. The shaving head swivelled easily to follow the contours of my craggy and rugged (lol) features. I didn't need to apply much pressure and it seemed to glide effortlessly through the stubble.
Very gingerly I completed an area at a time and by the time I had finished, there was not a nick in sight, nor was my chin area red raw. More importantly, my face actually felt nice and smooth and soft. I called to my wife to feel my face, and she remarked how much like a baby's bum it was - charming!! What with the lemon & lime smell things progressed but that's a different story!!
The amount of stubble in the sink was proof as to how much had been removed and I couldn't remember ever having such a close and pain free shave before.
I don't know how long each cartridge head is supposed to last - it depends on the thickness of the user's stubble I imagine, but to get such a close shave I think it is well worth the money. Plus you don't have to worry about Lewis Hamilton, Tiger Woods or Roger Federer being on your case.
The product is made in China for the Gillette Company under the auspices of Proctor and Gamble in Surrey. Any questions or comments on the razor can be given via a free-phone number. It is called Gillette's best shave among power razors but I can't comment on that as I've not tried the others.
There are some ingredients shown, presumably the lubricating strip, and these are PEG-115M, PEG-7M, PEG-100, Tocopheryl acetate, BHT, Aloe baradenis, vitis vinifera, persa gratissima. That explains it then!!
I would 100% recommend this and will be putting my Remington away in the slot where I found the shaving foam. This wet razor does the business.
Advantages: Good grip Disadvantages: Price, trimmer difficult to use

Gillette introduce the Fusion Power Razor and can you believe it, it has a total of 6 blades, 5 on the front and 1 on the back for trimming. But even I cannot justify going out and spending that sort of money on a razor.
Price:-
£9.99 with only 1 head, daylight robbery especially when replacement heads are £8 for 4. Since they first come out prices have dropped you can pick the razor up for about ... ...silver, with ridges galore. The Gillette logo prominent on the handle, this razor looks like one futuristic bit of kit.
Comfort :-
The razor sits comfortable in the hand and feels lightweight, even with the AAA battery inside. The middle area of the razor has a rubbery feel and this with the ridges stop the razor slipping out of your hand when wet.
Changing head/battery :-
To change the battery you just twist the bottom and insert the battery ...

Advantages: It gives a decent shave Disadvantages: Well over-priced and hyped
...first attracted me to the Gillette Fusion, that along with the fact that ASDA had the Razor and The hydro gel on offer for £4. Since the outlay for replacement blades for three blade and Quattro type razors is usually in that vicinity I thought what the heck I'll give it a try.
The difference between the Fusion and normal four blade systems is the addition of a fifth blade which is situated on the top of the razor and is isolated from the other ... ...as above the moustache , a single blade is far more suitable and can negotiate the small area better and more comfortably than the quite wide width of the four blade section. This is definitely an advantage over a normal multi bladed system. The inclusion of the rather gimmicky vibration system may in certain circumstances enhance the experience, and perhaps even the quality of the actual shave, but for me it is really not much more than a gimmick. ...

...the launch of the new Gillette Fusion. Upon its launch i set out to buy one and was immediately impressed by the overall boldness of the packaging. If the Mach 3 packaging was sleek and understated then this was certainly going to catch the eye. And I must say I found it in an interesting and not an unwelcome change. Advantages: It looks good. It sounds good. It IS good. Disadvantages: The blades are relatively expensive
...Fortunately, I got a Gillette Fusion Power razor as a Christmas present and I've never looked back. Unlike Wilkinson's razors, it looks and sounds like it means business. It shaves well, the batteries last much longer and the whole package comes across as a well designed product that does what it promises. The razor is beautifully balanced: a triumph of design and engineering. The colours are bright and cheerful and the motor sounds like it is rugged ... ...will receive coping with steam, water and foam, that's important.
The only down side is the price. You can sometimes buy the razors on special offer, but the blades are twice the price of Wilkinson's (in excess of £2 per blade). Come on Gillette. Reduce the price of the blades and you've got me forever................. ...

of the blade head for use as a trimmer.
The GilletteFusion sells in the shops for £7.49 for the manual, and £9.99 for the Power. It is the manual razor being reviewed here. The blurb says the GilletteFusionrazor is the latest in the Gillette range - part of a new 3 part shaving 'system' including a shaving gel and aftershave balm (reviewed separately). The blade head itself has 5 blades, a lubricator strip and a shaving guard at the base.
The razor is nice and lightweight (a change from the usual old heavy one that's for sure!), and does glide very smoothly indeed. Hubby tried it out first and was very impressed - his face really was very smooth, and I certainly didn't feel any stubble on him for quite a while afterwards. No rash, and a good clean shave. And me? Yes, I like it very much too - it is a good smooth shave and the razor ...
Advantages: A great shave when the blade is new Disadvantages: Not great enough overall to be worth the extra cost
The rise of "Metrosexual Man" in recent years has made the male grooming market a huge growth industry. However, the male need to shave was always present, so the razor manufacturers have had to increase their market share in the old fashioned way; by coming up with new and better products and stealing their rivals' customers.
It seems that better has equated to "more blades" in recent years. From the days of the simple twin bladed disposable razor, Gillette added a third to produce the Mach 3 and, later, added a battery for the Mach 3 Power. Wilkinson Sword went one better, making the four bladed Quattro. Now comes the latest innovation is wet shaving with the GilletteFusion; a razor with, perhaps predictably, five blades, but which has also added a sixth blade on the back to act as a precision trimmer, in much the same way that ...

The Fusionrazor comes in two guises, Manual and Battery Powered. Essentially the product is exactly the same, except one is battery powered and well; I think you can guess the rest.
The two razors are quite visibly different despite having the same blade. The manual version is Chrome and blue with a small accent of orange. The Power version is more chrome and a lot more orange, and in my opinion a lot better looking. As you'd expect from the fact that one has to make room for an AAA battery and one doesn't, the manual handle is a bit sleeker.
This review is based on the Power version as my idiocy towards gadgets means that I had to get the one with a battery in! The manual razor will ...
