I was sitting at home one night watching the football. Man Utd v Real Madrid in the Champions League. Big match. It got to half time and the commercials came on, as they usually do. I sat through the usual adverts for loans, mobile phones and all the other codswallop that ITV decided to put on when all of a sudden I was jolted to my senses by an advert that I was actually interested in. It was for a new razor. The Gillette Mach 3 Turbo and I thought my dreams had come true.
The Gillette Mach 3 Turbo is supposed to be the best razor around at the moment. It’s triple blade head supposedly gives you a closer shave than ever before. What it actually did in my case was give me such a close shave that it took not only all the hair off, but half the face as well. The promises are there in the advert. Close shave and no irritation, even if you’re going against the grain. So why is it then that after using the Turbo for the first time my face was covered in blood and didn’t stop stinging for about a week. No irritation just god awful pain.
You’ll have to excuse me if I’m ranting it’s just I hate the idea of false advertisement. I’ll start from the beginning and I’ll try to go slowly.
After watching the advert for the Gillette Mach Turbo I went the next day to the shop to buy the razor. I was amazed at the relatively cheap price (You can get it for about £6.00 - £7.00 depending on where you go and you get two free blades). I was so confident that the Turbo was the razor for me that I even bought a pack of six extra blades. Using hindsight that was probably one of the most stupid things I have ever done. Anyway I took it home and up to the bathroom for my first use with The Gillette Mach 3 Turbo. I put the shaving foam on my face and started to run the hot tap. I held the razor under the tap for about 12 seconds and then I proceeded to start to shave myself. It felt quite comfortable except for the fact that everywhere the razor had been it had left behind it a red trail of blood. After I had finished shaving myself I took a step back and looked in the mirror. To my horror I had cuts all over my face. I looked like I had just gone 12 with Tyson. It was crazy. However I was prepared to write it off as being due to the new blade and I was convinced that things would be different when I next used the blade. How wrong I was.
A couple of days later I decided to risk using the blade again. My cuts had pretty much healed and I was determined that things would be different. I put the shaving foam on as usual and went to work shaving myself. It was a disaster. I took one stroke with the razor and it not only made new cuts but also reopened all of the cuts that were there before. In a wild rage I through the Turbo into the toilet and dashed into my bedroom. I threw open my drawer and withdrew my good old Gillette Mach 3 – The best razor in the world. I finished shaving myself with that without any problems. I fished the Turbo out of the toilet and washed my hands with disinfectant (because of the Turbo not because of the loo). Needless to say I have not touched the Turbo since.
I don’t know if I’m just not compatible with the Turbo or if I’m just crap at shaving. Whatever the reason my experience with the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo was a disaster and I would not recommend it to anyone. You’re better off sticking with the ordinary Mach 3. It IS the best razor in the world.

Hmm, I tried the Mach3Turbo for the first time this morning (after using Mach3 for ages), and was very impressed. I have a beard of nails though... Will write an op when I get a chance.
Advantages: A super close shave, ergonomic design, very little in the way of cuts etc even with my sensitive skin Disadvantages: takes a little "tooing and froing" to get the best shave, expensive, results depend an awful lot on the shaving gel used.
