Review of "Gilmore Girls - Series 1 (Box Set) (DVD)"
I didn't get into watching Gilmore Girls until the series had ended and I stumbled upon a re-run.
I thought Gilmore Girls was entertaining and very cleverly written, especially with the fast-paced dialogues and references to other films and music.
I love how it isn't completely predictable, especially (some) relationship wise where you have a Ross-Rachel situation thing going on and you just know two characters will get together at some point. As the show is aimed at children also, parents will also like that although it is about a single mother getting pregnant at 16 and becoming more "friends" with her daughter as she gets older, it is also shown how hard it was for Lorelai having a child so young and the struggles she went through such as having not much money and sacrificing a college degree, so it doesn't glamorize teenage pregnancy.I find all the characters have little quirks that separate them from "random townspeople" although some are a little far fetched, such as a man working at every business in town, a chain-smoking dance teacher, a chef who is the clumsiest person alive and a diner owner who argues with everybody but still has regular custom everyday. Even still, they all make the show in their own little way.
As I said at the beginning, I watched the series in one go after new episodes had stopped being shown, so I didn't have to "wait in suspense" for the next one, although there wasn't that many cliff hangers so to speak. All in all, I love the TV show and would definitely recommend.
I bought mine from Play.com for around £9.99

Manufacturer's product descriptionSet in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, GILMORE GIRLS is a charming television drama that tells the story of a thirty-something single mother, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), and her precocious teenage daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), as they navigate their way through the shifting tides of day-to-day life. Lorelai and Rory's relationship is one built out of friendship as much as it is based on maternal love, which allows for more drama and depth than most family shows. This release is a perfect way for fans to remember why they fell in love with the show in the first place, and allows latecomers to discover Lorelai and Rory for the very first time.
