Advantages: No preparation. Good to eat as a hassle free snack or as a side dish with a main meal. Disadvantages: A bit too much mayonaise in this product for my liking.
GINSTERS PASTA SALAD, DOUBLE CHEESE AND ONION FLAVOUR.

This does seem quite expensive for a little 115g pasta salad, but this may be explained by their availability. This does seem quite expensive for a little 115g pasta salad, but this may be explained by their availability. I have found these to be more readily available in garages, road-side shops, convienience stores and smaller super markets, such as Sommerfield where i bought mine. Obviously in these types of shops you do expect to pay a little more. I have not seen these in larger stores, but perhaps they will become more readily available in the future.
When you consider the possibility of eating this snack on the move, as it comes with its own little spork, stored under the sticky label, and that it requires absolutely no preparation then it doesn't seem as expensive as I first thought! Combined with its yummy taste and considering you can keep the container to use for pack lunch salads etc. I would generally say this is all right when it comes to value for money.
Packaging
This salad comes packed in an oval shaped sealed plastic container, which seems to keep the salad fresh and free from harm even after rumbling about in my bag for half the day.
The salad is labeled using too oval sticky labels, one on the top and the other on the bottom. The Ginsters brand name appears at the top in bold, solid black writing, with Pasta Salad in the same writing along side this. The product variety, ie. Double Cheese and Onion, appears underneath in lighter black writing. Also on the top appear nutritional values.
As forementioned a spork (cross between a spoon and a fork) is convieniently and secretly contained under the sticky label.
On the base labels more nutritional values, along with recommended daily intake figures are featured. Alongside this are the list of ingredients and manufacturer details.
Taste
As I live practically on vegetarian foods this variety was right up my alley. The pasta, which came in either shell or spiral shapes, tasted perfectly cooked. It was soft without being soggy, and still contained a slight crunch without tasting under cooked.
The pasta was packed at the bottom of the container, and was not mixed up with the filling. This was also clever as it stopped the pasta from becomming soggy.
The double cheese and onion part consisted of grated chedar and a white coloured cheese, mini red and white onion chunks, all in a mayonaise mixture.
Sometimes I find with these salads that the cheese used can be far to mature and strong tasting. With this salad, although a mature cheddar was used, the cheesy taste was not too strong and amalgamated well with the other ingredients.
The onion chunks were very small and barely visible but an onion taste was seemingly reconisable. I liked the idea of the two types of onions, and I guess thats where the "Double" comes in, likewise with the cheese.
The mayonaise mixture is the main and only thing I would fault with this product. The mayonaise engulfed the taste and drowned the cheese and onion, but blending well with the pasta. A bit less mayonaise might have been better.
I would have prefared the mayonaise mix to come in an individual sachet hence allowing you to add some according to individual taste.
All in all this product was a success for me and instead of eating it as a lunch it would be nice to accompany a main meal such as steak ciabatta or a deluxe burger in a bun..
