Advantages: Helps to highlight philosophical questions Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to follow because of the format
I read this book first earlier in the year, as part of a seminar on political philosophy. It's relevance came to mind again both as we near the anniversary of September 11, and as the news reports show renewed issues with travel and terrorism between my twin homelands of North America and the British Isles. While it can be a bit of struggle to wade through the material, it is valuable in some respects to help refine the philsophical questions underpinning terrorist motivation and activity - things we need to understand better.
As Borradori states in his introduction, 'Both [Habermas and Derrida] hold that terrorism is an elusive concept that exposes the global political arena to imminent dangers as well as future challenges.'
