Ten years on I’m still a big fan of Amarige and obviously it holds special memories for me, being my first foray into the world of perfume counters and testers. My collection may be much bigger now but I still love to wear this enriching fragrance. I just don’t put quite so much on now.
I was fifteen years old when I got my first bottle of ‘adult’ fragrance and I’m a strong believer that there’s a very good reason for it not coming into my possession any sooner. At fifteen the words ‘less is more’ are something of a foreign language and this has never been more true than when it comes to perfume. In true teenage tradition I trotted off to school that day proudly drenched with a few hefty squirts from my 50ml bottle of Amarige Eau de Toilette and I think everyone within a three mile radius must have known I was wearing it. At least they all seemed to like it!
I don’t suppose it would have really mattered what that first fragrance was, I would have loved it anyway. I mean, my mum chose it for me and in addition, psychologically I think it was a further step towards that longed for sense of adulthood. Thankfully my mum has good taste when it comes to these things (well I think so anyway) and she’d chosen something that I loved right from the start.
In perfume speak Amarige is described as a floriental, that’s floral and oriental to you and me. Every perfume is made up of top notes, middle notes and bottom notes. Top notes are more volatile aromas that only last a short time, middle notes last longer but are still volatile and bottom notes are the persistent part of the fragrance, the bit you’re left with later and will probably come to associate most as ‘being’ that fragrance. In Amarige the top notes are neroli, mandarin and violet, middle notes are gardenia, mimosa and ylang-ylang and the beautiful bottom notes are ambergris, musk and vanilla.
It’s hard to imagine what each of those might smell like, never mind what they’re like all together so I’ll try and describe it a bit better. Basically Amarige is a deep, slightly spicy, floral fragrance, light enough for everyday wear, but sensual enough for evening too. Don’t be put off if you’re not fan of musk because here it’s used more as a balancer of the sweetness of the vanilla and I definitely wouldn’t describe this as a musky fragrance. None of the individual notes overpowers the others and I find the blend of florals quite invigorating. It’s nothing like the rosy fragrances the thought of florals usually conjures up.
I also find that it lasts very well and if I put on a couple of squirts in the morning it’s still evident in the evening, even though it’s only an eau de toilette, rather than the full blooded perfume. You can get the perfume if you prefer that and there’s also a deodorant, soap, bath and shower gel, velvet body crème and silk body veil that I know of, as well as the eau de toilette in 30ml, 50ml or 100ml sizes. So you’re well covered, quite literally! Expect to pay around £21.50 for the 30ml EDT if you’re lucky, although it varies hugely depending on where you shop.

Advantages: great smell, staying power, not too strong Disadvantages: none I can think of
I am not someone who usually buys perfume right away without going round asking for samples to see if I like the fragrance. Usually inside magazines you can find the scented strips while you either peel off or open up and then you can test the perfume. I was inside a big Department store, I think it was the House of Fraser when I stopped and came accross the perfume counters. I thought to myself that I hadn't bought perfume in a while so decided ... ...After lots of sprays I finally stopped and when I took off the posh misty glass top which was in a lovely shape which reminded me of a sea shell but this was also what attracted my attention. Anyway carrying on from before "when I took off the posh misty glass top" I sprayed it into the air and I loved the smell it wasn't too strong but one that attracts noses. It oozed expensive and I love to have things that don't look cheap and affordable and ...

Advantages: Lovely perfume for both day and night Disadvantages: Too much perfume comes out when sprayed
I first smelt this perfume on a co-worker and just HAD to have it!!
It is a lovely fruity scent which is light enough for day use but also deep enough for evening.....My boyfriend adores it and I have been asked time and time again what the name of it is....
It is a bit pricey, but it definitely makes up for the price.....Unlike some other perfumes which can be a bit cloying, this perfume is sweet and lingering but not overpowering.....It has excellent ... ...I am quite a collector of perfumes, but I would have to say this is one of my top two perfumes.....
Another good thing about it, is that is smells different on each person, so even if you have it, you can still get it for a friend without you both smelling the same!!
If it is only one perfume you were going to have, i would say this one would be an excellent choice.... ...

This is what I would call a very classy scent. I orginally bought it for my mum, but found myself stealing into her bedroom and spraying it on myself. The scent itself is fairly strong but definately not overpowering or unpleasant. It is, however, quite a heavy perfume, and I suggest if you are trying it for the first time, only spray a little on yourself as it tends to linger all day and night! (just in case you don't like it!).... I wouldn't call ...

Advantages: The Fragrance lasts all day and all night Disadvantages: None
I first smelt this perfume on a friend and thought it was a really nice fragrance and it was one of those perfumes where people know your wearing it as I can’t stand to put a perfume on and other people not to be able to smell that your wearing perfume. This perfume is very classy and fairly strong but not overpowering. I’d describe this fragrance as sweet and fruity. It’s more for evenings out and special occasions rather than ... ...all night. This perfume is quite expensive starting from £17.00 for only a 30ml bottle. You can buy it at Boots, Argos, Index, The Perfume Shop and other places. It comes in 30ml and 50ml probably other sizes as well.
The bottle it’s self is a great neat little bottle with a frosted lid the bottle is shaped like a teardrop and is very flat and smooth. It comes in a lovely bright red box. So if you like sweet and fairly strong fragrances this ...

...of the scents made by Givenchy and didn't know anyone who rated then as worth trying.
So I suppose the gift was the perfect chance to try it.
It is a fairly heavy scent with musky, oriental undertones, but it really is a fresh, invigorating perfume that I really enjoyed wearing.
It lasted well and people commented on how nice it smelt which always help me decide whether or not I like something to buy it again.
The gift set comprised of the perfume ...
