This year saw, Glasgows Gig on the Green festival host it's second year. Last year's festival saw, Oasis and the Sterophonics headline though this year was promising to be a much bigger event.
August 25th and August 26th were the days for the City to become alive, with the up n comming bands like Alien Ant Farm, to people who are just past it, like Iggy Pop.I had never been to a festival before and so naturally, I was really looking forward to standing for 12 hours solid, using portable toilets and paying £1.50 for a cup of Irn Bru. I know, stop being so god damn pessimistic...though that’s the only bad I will mention!
25th August - I arrived to the prime venue, right in the heart of Glasgow. I waited for just under 2 hours, before being allowed to enter inside, after entrance I got to about 3 rows from the barrier. The concert started explosively with a truly terrific performance from Alien Ant Farm. I am sure there were Neds in the crowd who had never heard of them, and possibly others too but I sure had, after a brilliant tour with Papa Roach! They sang songs such as, Courage, Movies and Smooth Criminal as taken from Michael Jackson.
Other acts followed such as HED.PE and Staind. Finally, though my favourite band came on stage, PAPA ROACH! I was standing in the mosh pit as Papa Roach sang hits like Infest, Broken Home and a dazzling finale with Last Resort. For serious goths, the best would get better with none other than, Marilyn Manson himself appearing on next. Marilyn dedicated one of his hits to a Scottish Girl who committed suicide, after being bullied for being a goth. The first day was to be headlined by Eminem who appeared on stage with D12. Safety fears kept Eminem delayed at times, as he tried to calm the crowd down. For Eminems fans, I'm sure his performance was excellent, though I believe I was at the fantastic shows on site!
Day 2 - Again after waiting about an hour before getting in, I got straight to the barrier. All day I stood at the barrier, watching acts such as Kelis, Iggy Pop and the Cosmic Rough Riders, 7 hours on and my Punk Rock favourites emerged, me having not moved all day, yeah that’s seven hours, to see GREENDAY!Greenday came on and they were brilliant. However, I was crushed and had to go over the barrier, after standing those seven hours. Members from the crowd came up and played base on drums, and we were enchanted with hits such as Basket Case and Good Riddance. Also, they set their drum kit alight, this was rather humorous! A delightful performance from Billy Joe and the crew!
Last but not least, was Travis, the Glasgow boys had a show to put on, a finale to my first festival, and great it was too. I am not a major Travis fan but their performance was full of energy and you couldn't help but applaud them. The crowds were jumping about when hits like Sing and Why does it always rain on me were being performed. Magic. The atmosphere was brilliant, the crowd was terrific and the music was marvellous! What more could a girl want, but a ticket to next years gig!
