There had been a number of city builder games being released, but only few of them could generate some success and they rest didn't get much of the attention. Glory of the Roman Empire seems to be one of those ignored games, but still seems to have got something attractive in it. The game is also set in the ancient Roman Empire which has been the source of so many games in the recent past. This empire-building simulation game looks a bit identical to Caesar 4, but does't have that good textures, and what makes this game gain some points is its simplicity. The game developers Haemimont Games has also kep the Hard Disc space requirements very low. In this game, the player has to take care of the various aspects of different colonies of Rome as they develop through the ages into a powerful cities.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME This game brings the player to Rome just like the other two games released in the same year, CivCity: Rome and Caesar IV. The glorious era of the Roman Empire is now, and you will take the role of Rome's governor and also take care of its colonies. This game happens to be more straightforward than the others, as it is as simple as it looks. The game is about building a city which has the happiest citizens and there should be no plagues or famines as well as no war. But in most of the campaigns, there may be some objective, like building something or gaining a certain status or collecting a certain amount of resources.
But while finishing these objectives, you can do lots of other things, and also continue to play even after you finish all the missions and won the scenario if you loved playing in that particular city. There will be enough help provided on playing the game, and there is one of the best tutorials ever. There will be the campaign as well as the challenge mode which involves some of the most interesting missions. There will also be the option of just going on and building without any pressure. There will be large number of cities waiting for you, including Carthago, Syracusae, Pompeii, Roma, Antium and more which shows the Glory of Rome.
YOU WILL NEED MORE There are lots of resources including gold, iron ore, meat, flour and fish, and there are various buildings to be built to makes sure that all the essential resources are collected. The citizens will have to go and collect all the resources by themselves as there is no market, and they will go only if the building is close enough. The same is the case with the jobs in the area. It is fun watching those citizens and slaves go around the city, and there are also a few kids playing around. We can click on these people just like we click on the buildings to know more about them as well as their needs and also about the scope for improvement.
The influence of all the buildings will be limited and the player will have to take care of these things by himself. The player will also need to look at the city centre and the other icons on the side to get more information on your city and its various features. The controls are very easy and the map can be zoomed in and out very easily and there is a help menu for more information on the various factors of the game. The player can always save the game anytime, and also take the screenshot and view it in the gallery. Both the saved games and screenshots will be saved in the My Documents folder, and the saved games will be hidden for some reason.
THE GREAT EXPECTATIONS OF ROME There will be some wars with the barbarians roaming around, but the main aspects will be the economy and the culture. You can hope to build a huge city with collesiums, bath houses and temples, but for that you will have to start from the humble beginnings with enough raw materials and also enough population as well as the slaves who are used to construct buildings. You can always buy slaves from the city centre as long as they are available and there is enough gold. Not all areas can have all the resources, which means that you will have to do lots of trade in this game too. Some cities rely a lot on trade to develop, especially the cities which have a shortage of food. This problem can be easily solved by building a trade post near a resource so that you can sell that resource to get another one in return. But there should have been more buildings, as there seems to be very few choices only.
The game's graphics may not be able to compete with Caesar 4, and the landscape and hills doesn't look too well-shaped. The water looks good and so does those ruins and forests. The waterfalls looks real and so does the water going through the aquaducts. This seems to be the advantage of making a game based on the Roman Empire, as all the buildings look awesome, thanks to the Roman architecture. Some of the buildings just look marvellous and there also the day/night effects and also rain and lightnings to add to these. But some of the buildings look less Roman and some of them look too similiar to each other. But there are few which really stand out. The sound track is just awesome with some of the best music around, which gives the game even a better feeling.
Glory of the Roman Empire is one of the easiest games as long as you follow those tutorials well and understand the basics. The game may not be too challenging, as there is no time limit on anything for achieving the objectives of the game and there is also no need to worry about the money like we did in Caesar 4, where there existed a great chance to become bankrupt. This game is fun to play, as we can keep building and also keep the people happy with minimum effort. It will be great for the people who are new to these type of games to start from this one, or for the people who didn't like the way the other city-builders complicated the things, as this one is just too easy compared to all those other games of the same type.

Advantages: Good gameplay, good graphics Disadvantages: n/a
This is another one of those build a settlement games. But with the great graphics and gameplay, it's definately at the higher end of the board. Throughout the tutorial there is a voiceover which helps you learn how to play the game, but if you prefer to figure it out on your own, there is a free play game which allows you to build from scratch and learn how everything works. All in all, I think this is a game that you could play endlessly as there ...
