Over the last year or so I have suffered pain in both elbows possibly as a result of getting old and rickety (!) or through taking up exercise. The final decision came over Christmas when I had a recurrance of back pain which I also attributed to similar causes. Whatever the cause, I thought I would try some Glucosamine as coincidentally there were a number of press reports on the outcome of studies which seem to support its effectiveness.
My initial source was Holland and Barrett who were doing an offer on Glucosamine and Chondroitin tablets, the combination being regarded as even more effective than Glucosamine alone. At the recommended dose these would be a bit dear so after the first 10 days or so I dropped down to one a day. They took about 6-8 weeks to work but I have to say that they do seem to have done the trick. The elbow pain has largely disappeared and the recurrent back problems are definitely less.
When the first bottle was gone so had the special offer. So I looked around for an alternative and found Vitamins Direct (www.vitaminsdirect.com) selling 750mg Glucosamine tablets at £25 for 365 tablets - a whole years supply. They also do a years supply of Glucosamine and Chonroitin (which I only found out about later) for £25 as a special offer of 3 x 120 tablet containers. These are their website price but they can be even cheaper through offers in the Sunday Supplements.
These together with cod liver oil (365 capsules @ 400mg)for £6 (!) from the same source seem to have largely cured the problem and I will make them a permanent feature of my diet from now on.

My partner bought some of these to measure the effect on his degenerative back condition but never actually got around to trying them - what a waste, but I have heard some good reports.
