Fantastic Faithfull
Review of Faithfull: An Autobiography - Marianne Faithfull by Salgirl

Advantages: see opinion
Disadvantages: none unless you're easily shocked

...-Masoch, wrote a novel entitled "Venus um Pelz" which gave rise to the term "Masochist". Interesting, huh? So with her mother being aristocratic, what was daddy like? Well, daddy was a spy who worked for british intelligence, Major Glyn Faithfull. Eva and Glyn met and fell in love when he'd been sent to rescue her and her family from nazi sympathisers. With such a romantic background to her life, how on earth could any of us expect her to be normal! Her life has been captured many times in photographs, but this is a fantastic look behind the scenes, told in a totally candid and self-effacing way, which is both charming and humourous. Thankfully the drugs have not stripped her intelligence down to nothing, the writing is fluent, articulate and confident. The tales of her experience with Mick Jagger and the rest of the group is completely absorbing... Read review

Be Witched REVISED
Review of The Wiccan Path: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - Rae Beth by peppersinclaire

Advantages: Covers all the Pagan holidays, good info on trance/visualisation, cheap!
Disadvantages: Tricky to get info from, you may not like the style of writing - personal is it is.

...with Beth’s introductory letter to Tessa and Glyn, where she answers the question “what is witchcraft?” for the pair. This may well dispel a further few myths for the casual reader, pointing out as I have that this is the most ancient of all practices. Yes, there *is* a guy with horns involved, but he is not the devil (a Christian invention to denounce paganism), but rather the Horned God, partner to the Triple Goddess. Now, there was nothing in this introduction that I found useful, mainly because I’ve read up on this subject time and again, but as a brief summary of pagan principles, it’s pretty good. It’s around this point that you may be put off by the book. I often read back the opening two letters and wonder why I still enjoy them. There is a good deal of information to be harvested from these pages... Read review

Do You Think Me a Moon Child or Devil Woman?
Review of The Wiccan Path: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - Rae Beth by bandcamp

Advantages: easy to follow, not overly complicated, excellent information on trance work and meditating
Disadvantages: only a 3rd of the book will be very useful to anyone who isn't a total novice

...of letters that Rae Beth composed to two 'apprentices' interested in becoming witches, Tessa and Glyn, over a 12 month period from January 1987 until January 1988 in which she divulges teachings regarding the faith. This I felt was quite an interesting format, as although Tessa and Glyn's own written responses were not published, any questions they had written were addressed and anwered in the next letter by Beth - which would make the book almost interactive, so long as the readers have the same questions! The first letter addresses most people's initial queries about the faith, and explains a bit about Witchcraft, and that it is not only a male deity that is worshipped, but a Goddess as well, and the implications that has / had in a patriarchial society (trust me, this isn't a man-bashing book! But you do have to wonder if we'd need to have... Read review
