You can’t go wrong with this, it tastes great, the container’s recyclable glass, the ingredients are organic and it’s only an unbelievable 24 cal per 100 g. Goes nice with a warm crusty roll in this weather, you can even add a little butter or cream if you prefer a richer taste, with the calories that low you can easily afford to. It’s available on the Organic shelf in most major supermarkets ( £1.89 in Tesco and Waitrose for 495g). more

The label’s simple but attractive with a picture of the ingredients and the company logo in green. All the ingredients are organic and certified by the soil association, there aren’t any thickeners so it does settle slightly and you need to give the jar a shake before heating, just to mix everything.
First thing that strikes you about this soup is the colour, it’s unashamedly orange, not an artificial orange colour but like carrot puree, and indeed it is 33% carrot, and it’s got a rich earthy smell of carrots and ginger. It also contains potato, orange juice, vegetable bouillon and butter (that‘s it apart from water and seasoning). The instructions say to heat gently, stirring until hot, but it cooks just as well for a couple of minutes in the microwave. This is a good thick soup, just like homemade, it doesn’t have chunks of vegetables rather it’s a liquefied puree. It tastes delicious, the orange flavour is predominant and that gives it a slight (not at all overwhelming) sweetness over the taste of the carrots, the ginger taste is almost an afterthought, just enough to give it an extra warmth.

For those of you with food allergies it’s asserted to be gluten free, unfortunately the factory obviously uses nuts elsewhere as they say it may contain nut traces.
