God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)

God of war is produced by makers ready at dawn who have brought you many brilliant games such as Daxter another brilliantly made psp game (which i will actually be writing a review on shortly so be sure to keep checking back) and many other hits.

So for any of you who know any thing about computer or psp games this was one of the most eagerly anticipated games on many of the hit consoles. And the answer to your question was it worth the wait?? to say yes would be an understatement how about HELL YEAH IT WAS!!!

Now just a quick mention, like i have said in all my psp game reviews i think if any one would like to know any thing about running custom firmware on your psp to be able to play games of your memory card please feel free to ask.

Any way back to the game. The game's story features a General called Kratos whose job it is to serve the Gods of Olympus having served for many years and Kratos finally has to face the decision to continue serving or to do what would be right for him. The god of war games have never really had to much story line to them but thats not why every one loves them so much although you do get drip fed a lot more information about krytos past through various cut scenes which is a nice touch.

Ready at dawn have really done a brilliant job bringing the old god of war feel from the ps2 over to the psp the controls are soo tight and accurate giving the user a real feel for the in battle experience. There are hundreds of attacks to master and gives you a great sense of control over your character proving a very exciting and i must say very addictive experience.

As you venture through the game you will collect new weapons and magic abilities which you can use to destroy your various enemies. You will also collect these little red orb objects which you can use to buy new attacks to learn making the game very personalized and again as i said earlier very addictive.

During the various levels which i must say are spectacularly long and well designed for a psp game, you will have to take on many challenges not only enemies but various puzzles that you must solve to move onto the next stage making the game a lot more interesting as it splits up the levels meaning it isn't just a 24 hour slasher game although don't worry you will be doing a lot of that to!!

As for graphics i would say that this is probably one of the strongest games on the psp offering graphics very close to the original ps2 and if you have a psp slim you can even link it up to your HDTV and play on there. The sheer detail of the animations is absolutely mind blowing for a hand held and is a major major jump from the days of the old game boy. They have defiantly been one of the first to really get the maximum out of the psp capabilities which as we are starting to see is rather amazing especially some of the things being done on the home brew scene now.

As for sound again brilliant nothing short or excellence from what is know becoming one of the highest rated developers in my opinion. With war drums to be heard in the background and voice overs spoken better than most of the lines in 300 give the game a terrific atmosphere and tension to it. I also highly recommend playing the game with a decent set of head phones it gives the game such a brilliant feel and is almost like you are there.

The game also features many mini games similar to the previous gods of war games and even contains every ones favorite old favorite from the ps2 the sex mini game which is very amusing i no i probably sound like some kind of pervert now but trust me im not its just a joke mini game the producers put into the game in the first game which has become some what of a tradition for God of war and any one who has played it before will know what i am talking about im sure.

As for the frame rate of this game it is also incredable and manages to keep up a very steady rate of play even with so many characters on screen at the same time as well as moving backgrounds and effects going on let alone the standard of graphics and is again a sign of the psp being used to its absolute limit.

As for the life span of the game i think it took me about 8 hours to complete but i haven't found all the secrets yet or earned the bonus items so the game even have a massive life span and to be honest i would be happy to play the game all over again its that good and i don't say that about many games.

All in all i cannot speak higher of this game and its ability to push the psp to the absolute max and really is one of the very very top games i have played on the psp and come to think of it on any console a definite buy for any psp owner.

As for a mark out of Ten its going to have to be 10/10 and a deserving one at that brilliant game.
