This review is about the classic game Golden Axe. I will give as much information about it as I can. This game is like streets of rage (check out my review on it) but the game is set in the olden times, where you fight monsters, stone men with clubs, dragons and all sorts.
Golden Axe is a classic game that no one will ever forget, like Sonic. I have Golden Axe on a ROM, and I play it a lot of times. In Golden Axe, you can move up and down on the area you are in, you will have stone men type people come and attack you, you will have to defeat all the enemies that come to you so you can proceed to the next area, when you have defeated all the enemies in that area, or think you have, then an arrow will pop up pointing in the direction you need to go.
You will have to fight a different boss each time you are at the end of a level, the boss could be two fox creatures standing up on there two legs, or you could just be fighting
loads of enemies at once. The bosses get harder when the further you get into the game; they are not to be taken lightly. In the game you have 3 options, you can jump, with the C button, or you could attack with the B button, or you could use a special attack with the A button. The special attack is a really powerful attack with magic which damages all the enemies on the screen, but you need little blue magic potions to perform these, the more you have, the more powerful the magic attack will be. Each character has their own different type of attack, and special attack.
The game also has a duelling mode, which is good, you and your friend picks a character, and then you do a duel, you duel each other, trying to become victorious, and in some duels, you get these dragon things that you can hop on, so you can do more damage to your friend. There is a co-op version of the game too, where you can do the 1 player mode with a friend. You friend will also pick a character, and you will go around the lands killing skeletons and stone men and stone woman together, but you will be sharing continues, which is a shame. You get 3 lives, then you will have to give up a continue, then you have another set of 3 lives.
The playability of this game is great; you could be playing this game for ages, trying to complete the game without dieing. It’s a hard thing to try, but it has to be done sometime. The game is very addictive; you could be playing this game for a couple of hours a day, so you will make you step closer to becoming a kid/adult that has completed the game Golden Axe.
The originality of the game is great, it’s sort of like Streets of Rage, but it is set more in the 14th century or something, well probably before then, and you go around fighting you enemies, freeing hostages, and all that. The graphics are not bad, could have been better, but not much, as it’s a game that is like 10 years old, and it was on an old machine, the Mega drive. But if it was remade on the XBOX or Game cube, then it would be different matter, but it’s not like that would happen, so a person can dream.
The sound is great, loads of good music, to listen to when you are killing you enemy and bosses. There are no voices in this game; it is done in a type form, like Final Fantasy has been since Final Fantasy X. The sound effects of the game is good, you have the bashing of the bat on the enemies back, and the footsteps, and the charging which is really good. The game is not that difficult really, it is quite easy at the beginning part of the game, then it gets way harder, you can change the difficulty in the options area, from Easy to Normal, then to Hard, if you are that skilled.
The game is defiantly worth the money, it is like £5, and it could be even cheaper, so if you have a Mega Drive still, then get it fast, but watch out, you will not find it in a normal store, so you will have to search for it for a while, if not get the Emulator Mega Drive, then get the ROM Golden Axe, like I do. Just search for Sega Megedrive ROMS in the search engine, and then there you go. I think this game is great, it has entertained me for hours and on end, so I will give this game a 4 star, because I like the style of game.

Could never get into this one but I'm sure I still have a copy somewhere, will have to get it out again. I seem to remember always falling off the edge of the screen! Love Jai. xxx.
