Trouble was, I couldn't locate it in the shops, and once I'd seen this game on the 'net, nothing else would do!! According to sources it had been released, just was very hard to come by, and so to Ebay I travelled, and promptly purchased a copy for a bargain £25.00 boxed and 'as new'! ...boot.
Golden Sun thankfully has all those. Those of you familiar with Final Fantasy will be at ease with this game straight away. That is not a bad thing, for this is no copy of Final Fantasy, it just borrows elements from the game, most noticeably the turn based strategy orientated fighting system. Once I had been given a Gameboy Advance in the Summer for my Birthday, I knew pretty quickly I'd want to be playing an RPG (role playing game) of some description. Some searching found the title 'Golden Sun', meant little to me, I mean the only two RP's I'd come across before were the Zelda's and the various Final Fantasies!

Golden Sun is a very traditional style of RPG. If you have never come across the genre before then suffice to say your typical RPG will be loaded with Japanese style (Manga?) graphics, lots of text to read, lots of puzzle solving and frantic running about and searching. Oh, and oodles of turn based fighting and and an involving storyline to boot.
Golden Sun thankfully has all those. Those of you familiar with Final Fantasy will be at ease with this game straight away. That is not a bad thing, for this is no copy of Final Fantasy, it just borrows elements from the game, most noticeably the turn based strategy orientated fighting system. Running along you will end up in a fight, even though you there was nothing on the map screen warning you of enemies!! This is totally the norm for Japanese written RPG's, and you will get used to it pretty quickly, believe me!!
The story takes you through many villages, caves, towers and lighthouses, trying to beat the enemy as you strive to reach the Elemental Stones before anyone else, thus preserving the safety of the world you reside in. You play Isaac and you have a rare ability to use the power of Psynergy and use the magical powers of items called Djinn. Essentially as you travel you learn new skills, thereby enhancing your powers and the magic to fight with becomes more destructive. The Djinn can be used in a Pokemon style, i.e. You can swap and change the Djinn you collect between characters to find new skills and spells. Typically though you will find the Djinn sets itself to the best character straight away.
I have nearly finished this game now I think, and currently some 40 hours of playing time have been amassed, so this is no small game by any means. The game is a 64Mb cartridge for use on GBA only, and has three save slots for your progress. There is also a 2-player battle mode featured, but I don't know anyone else with a GBA to test this out. It doesn't help you with the actual game progress though, it's merely an extension to the game to test your fighting skills and such.
Graphics are an improvement on the Super Nintendo's Zelda games, to give an example, and run very fluidly and seamless on the baby Nintendo. Sounds are good and functional, though the music, ever changing from scene to scene can get a bit repetitive. This is nothing to worry about too much, the sounds are functional and can be adjusted at will- i.e, there's a volume switch on the GBA!!
To conclude this a great challenging game, with lots to see and do. To play it is a real experience, and whilst it can become a little tedious at times, a short break from the game, I find I need to play it again soon after! I await Golden Sun 2 with baited breath.
Advantages: beautiful graphics, excellent music, addictive gameplay Disadvantages: it ends far too soon
...hyped Final Fantasy series. Golden Sun, you may know, is nothing to do with Squaresoft - but Chrono Trigger was - and what a game it was. Never released in the UK - it was an old-style console RPG that simply blew my mind away. Fantastic game play, an engrossing story line, and a mammoth quest all equalled an unbeatable game. I have to admit I was very disappointed by Breath of Fire - the other RPG game on the GBA - its learning curve seemed to steep ... ...back within a week. Golden Sun is basically everything BoF was not.
The game begins with a time old premise - its young hero being awoken from his bed (come on gamers how many times has this been used? Zelda, CT, FF...) by his worried mother - a fatal rock fall is imminent in their hometown of Vale. You then take control and guide your hero to safety - but sadly, you cannot save some others, including your own father. The game swiftly moves on to ...

===Overview===
Golden Sun, I must agree has been the best game that 'I' have ever played in my life till now. Its just amazing. I loved the whole conept and just loved the story. Its just too good. The way they have involved the fighting scenes, the encounters, the mystical creatures, and the characters is just really very commendable.

...the pleasure of playing.
Golden Sun, as I've said is an RPG (or role-playing game for those unfamiliar with the terminology) made by a company called Camelot (No relation to the flawed Lottery company I can assure you! :)). The basis of the story is that Alchemy is the basis of all things in the world - in this case a world known as Weyard. Alchemy itself is split into the four elementals of Fire, Earth, Wind and Water with everything in the world ... ...For the stat-lovers out there, Golden Sun is packed full of them, so you can tweak every aspect of your heroic party in order to best prepare them for the many challenges they undertake.
The one thing I liked in this game was that it was very challenging mentally. Don't get me wrong, we're not talking rocket science here, but some of the puzzles that need to be overcome require quite a bit of cerebral effort on the gamers part, and there's a sense ...

Advantages: Hours of Entertainment Disadvantages: Long passive conversations where you can't save
I had never really played an RPG on the GBA before I got Goldensun, and I can honestly say that I think this was a good starting point. The game is very easy to get into with tips throughout the game on how to use certain things, but not on a structured level. Games such as Mario have boxes that tell you how to use items as you come across them, but this is subtly different. You have to search for the tips which makes it very satisfying when you ... ...game runs with one main character and then adds others along the way. The story can get a bit complicated and you tend to forget what you're supposed to be doing but the good thing is that that doesn't matter. There is no set structure to the game so you can just wander into towns and see what's there and you generally end up doing what you were supposed to anywat, and if you don't you tend to run into someone who will 'remind' you of your quest ...

...So, it seems that Golden Sun have actually overcome the brilliance that is Zelda, but there is yet to be a Zelda game confirmed for the GBA, I can't really see Zelda beating Golden Sun, very likely drawing, but only something as original as Celda (Cel Zelda) will beat this title. RiCkOsS ...

GoldenSun: The Lost Age (GBA) was a long awaited sequel to the smashing success that boosted standards for all handheld RPGs, GoldenSun.
GoldenSun TLA is set after GoldenSun 1 (in Weyard), apart from you control Felix, seeing what happens after the splitting of Venus Lighthouse. Eventually later ingame you might up with Isaac's crew and use them for battles and extra Djiins.

?Alchemy- the power to manipulate the building blocks of reality-Has been sealed away for generations. This ancient science has been hidden deep within Sol Sanctum and protected by the small village of Vale. Which lies at the foot of Mt Aleph, home to Sol Sanctum. Now however, the seal has been broken, and the Elemental stars, the jewels that channel the power of alchemy, have been stolen.
Stories tell that the master of alchemy knows no limits to his power and can attain everything his heart desires. Using the four jewels, you are trying to light the elemental lighthouses and release the power of alchemy upon the world of Weyard!?
