4 Stars Crunchy munchies, snoochie boochies Review with images 30/09/2005

Advantages Advantages Very edible, great for the booze munchies

Disadvantages Disadvantages 170-172 calories, 1g of salt, 3.6g saturated fat... should I be eating these?

Golden Wonder, the purveyors of fine fattening crisps, have been helping to enlarge waistlines since 1947 when the company was founded by Scottish baker William Alexander. Fantastic! I feel patriotic by eating junk food now. Just don't say that to any dieticians. Predominately churning out potato crisps (Golden Wonder, Golden Lite, Golden Skins) they also produce Nik Naks (corn based), Ringos (ceral and potato based), and the delightful Wheat Crunchies (surprise surprise, wheat based). Wheat Crunchies were launched in 1981, and then relaunched in 1993. The bag I bought on a day I thought 'sod ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

As you may have guessed from previous opinions, I like my food! Generally I love anything sweet, but there are times when only a savoury snack will do. Crisps are great, but for a change from potato, my snack of choice has to be Golden Wonder Wheat Crunchies. I remember buying these on the way home from school (ah, the good ol’ days) but then didn’t see them for ages. Don’t know what happened to them – sort of like the mystery disappearance of the Spira bar – but thankfully they seem to be widely available again! As I have mentioned – these are not a potato ... more

    Advantages Advantages Yummy and tasty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe not the right chicken flavour for some.

This is my first crisp opinion and I am not sure how interesting crisps can be – so lets find out… …I saw these while rushing into my local corner shop. The packet stood out over all the others because it is bright yellow/mustard colour. It has the usual ‘Golden wonder’ logo in the top left and corner in white writing. The words ‘Wheat Crunchies’ are written in huge white letters on the front but in the middle of those words is a picture of the crisps themselves. Then in the top right hand corner is the flavour: CHICKEN AND MUSHROOM. Rather plain, but ... more

    5 Stars Crispy Bacon 28/05/2002
    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages Everything about them

Disadvantages Disadvantages They don't do bigger bags

These have to be my all time favourite crisps as I used to buy them when I was a nipper and they still taste as good as ever. I personally like to suck off the outer coating. The crisps are tube shape, short and stumpy and very crunchy, probably the crunchiest crisp out there. They are golden brown in colour with a texture rough with a loose paprika coating. They have a strong aftertaste and smell very Bacony. One good thing l like about these crisps is that the packet is always more than half full, so value for money as with walkers you only get half a packet of crisps, which really annoys me ... more

Advantages Advantages Very crunchy and satisfying, suitable for vegetarians

Disadvantages Disadvantages not suitable for those with milk or wheat intolerance

Did you know that Golden Wonder were the first company in the world to produce flavoured crisps? God Bless Golden Wonder is what I say because although I am an avid crisp fan I will do anything to avoid 'plain'. In a world which seems to be dominated by Walkers, Golden Wonder Wheat Crunchies make for an interesting change to the norm. Not only that but they are a fraction of the price. I noticed them in Sainsbury's today and being a bargain hunter they were one of the first things to hit the trolley. £1.65 for a multipack of 15 bags..an incredible 11 pence per bag! I will admit that the pack ... more
