The Gold Fish credit card is issued by HFC Bank (Household Finance Corporation). It is available in Visa or Mastercard and there are different card designs that you can choose – Twin fish, Two fish facing, Bluey, Fish Bowl, and Scales. It has an attractive APR of 18/9% with a minimum monthly repayment of 3% or £5 whichever is the greater. The APR for cash withdrawals is slightly higher at 20.7% which is still competitive compared to Barclaycard etc. There is a cash-handling fee for every cash withdrawal that you make – this is 1.5% or £2.50 whichever is the greater. Interest is accrued on cash advances from the date you withdraw the cash, unlike purchases, which have a 56-day interest free period. There is a choice of statement dates from 1st to 28th of each month and payment is due 21 days after the statement date.
There is payment protection insurance that can be added to your card and this works out at 74 pence for every £100 of your balance each month. This insurance is provided by Hamilton Insurance and covers card payments in the event of accident, sickness, unemployment or death. The insurance will be paid out if you have been off work for 30 days. The maximum claim period is 12 months.
LOYALTY PLAN
The Goldfish card has a loyalty plan which is run in conjunction with British Gas and the Gold Corporation. Basically every time you use your card you will get one point for every WHOLE pound spent. Please be aware that points are awarded for each transaction in whole pounds. This means that if you have 10 transactions at £9.99 you will only get 90 points not 99. These points will remain on your card for 5 years after that they will be deducted. (Not that mine last that long!!!) Points can be redeemed for the following:
British Gas/Electricity – you can redeem a minimum of 500 points (£5) up to 7500 points (£75) towards your British Gas/Electricity bill for each year. (Each year that you have had your credit card) 1 point = 1 pence
TV Licence – you can redeem a minimum of 500 points (£4) up to 13,000 (£104) the full cost of a colour licence. With the TV licence if you only want to redeem a certain amount of points you must pay the outstanding balance through your card, not elsewhere. 1 point = 0.8 pence
Vouchers – you can get vouchers in exchange for points with ASDA, Boots, Marks & Spencers, Dixons Group, John Lewis, LPG, British Gas Contract (service). All are a minimum of 1000 points (£10) except Asda which is 1500 points (£15) and Marks & Spencer and Dixons are 1250 points this is because the points are worth 0.8 pence instead of 1 penny.
Other offers include Goldfish Card Wine Service which is run by Wines Direct – you can redeem points against cases of wines from a catalogue which is sent with your welcome pack. Point’s value for this is 0.8 pence.
The Goldfish Travel Service, you get between 5% and 17% off selected holidays when purchasing with your card. This costs 500 points to register and each time you use the service. Also Goldfish Travel Insurance - points can be used against the cost of insurance.
AA Cover – you can redeem points against all AA cover options.
Mobile phones – this is run with Singlepoint (4U) points are redeemed against the cost of mobile phone packages.
Redeeming points
This is done by phoning the Goldfish Customer Service line and telling them how many points you wish to redeem against what type. Vouchers are sent by recorded delivery and take about 7-10 days to arrive.
It is important to know that if you are in arrears with your card that you cannot redeem points. If you do not pay the minimum payment on your card for 3 months all points are forfeited.
This is a brilliant credit card and the loyalty plan is very good. There is a promotional rate of 4.9% for balance transfers fixed for 6 months that is very good. The best way to use the card (and all cards!!) is to pay the balance off each month – that way no interest is added. (except on cash withdrawals). There is also a scheme called refer a friend whereby if you refer someone to have a goldfish card you and that person get 500 bonus points added to the card.
Advantages: Efficient service, good web site, rewards. Disadvantages: None
I have had my Goldfish card ever since they were first available and I have yet to be disappointed by it.
I don’t have to pay an annual fee for the privilege of using this card, which is one of its main selling points as far as I am concerned. I have also been able to change the monthly payment date to suit my own financial circumstances.
I always pay my bill in full every month so I have not done any research into whether the Goldfish Card ... ...The customer care from Goldfish is excellent. When my house was burgled and my credit cards stolen, Goldfish were efficient and friendly in making sure that I was not out of pocket, and my card was replaced right away.
The Goldfish insurance on purchases is great too. I once bought a television together with five years extra warranty, from a company that subsequently went bust. Goldfish refunded the money for the extra warranty without any trouble ...

* £1 = 1 Goldfish point. 1000 points gets you a choice of vouchers [tip here is to go 0for the John Lewis vouchers – a) you get a £10 voucer for 1000 points, and b) if you spend them at John Lewis, they give you change in CASH, not more vouchers]

Goldfish provides an opportunity to MAKE money out of the whole credit market, so why not take advantage?
I’ve been with them for around 2 years now, and service has always been good. They keep a close eye on fraudulent use, and I have never had a worry about using it to shop online. Even if you choose not to go with “The Fish” then perhaps the ones to avoid would be the ones that fall through your ...

Advantages: Great points scheme Disadvantages: APR could be better
I have had the Goldfish card for about 3 years now (at least!) I must have been one of their first customers, and have been on the whole very happy with the card. There are a number of key areas that should be mentioned :- APPLICATION PROCEDURE :- Generally smooth and efficient. One problem with Goldfish is that they are very risk averse. If you have a poor credit history you will be rejected. Even if you have a good credit history you may also be ... ...(e.g. MBNA gave me 10k, Goldfish only gave me 3k!). This was a pain when I moved hose and put a lot of items on my credit cards. I would have preferred to use Goldfish for the points, but quickly reached my limit. The card is also available in Visa or Mastercard and there are different card designs that you can choose ? Two fish facing, , Fish Bowl, Scales and a few others. All are very attractive, and you have to choose them on application. On application ...

...rate my opinion on the Goldfish Card.
I have been using the Goldfish mastercard (operated by HFC bank) for nearly four years and am very satisfied both with the ‘product’ itself and the quality of customer service provided.
As with any credit card, interest becomes payable on any outstanding balance shown on your account statement which you do not pay off within the required period. This is 21 days from the statement date, which means ... ...~ IS GOLDFISH FOR YOU? ~
The suitability of a credit card depends to a large extent on what kind of credit card user you are. If you operate your account with an outstanding balance, then the interest rate is of crucial importance, as the higher the interest rate the more you will have to pay. If you pay off your entire balance every month then the interest rate is of no particular significance, but other factors (loyalty schemes etc.) may sway ...

...may not be aware - Goldfish is now supplied by GOLDFISH BANK LTD and is no longer part of HFC - and may I say that since October the customer service from this company has been nothing short of appalling.

Reviews which might be of interest for "Goldfish Card"
The alliance and leicester gold card is a money back card. That means that once a year, which in this instance is in each January, a cheque arrives at your home. In some cases these cheques may be large, but in most cases around £30 to£50 should be expected.
Yes, this is good, as you are saving in a different way to recieve a cheque each year, but to what cost?
If you use the alliance and leicester card regularly and compare it with the use of a goldfishcard over the same expenditure, in my eyes the goldfishcard wins hands down. The return on this card is in high street vouchers and not cash, but you can easily spend them because they include such stores as asda, comet, british gas, etc, etc.
The alliance and leicester cashback or moneyback as they call it cannot be sneezed at, but it only returns the value of around 50 ...

The Tesco Credit Card..............
It was just over half a year ago now that I decided to transfer my outstanding credit card balance on to a new Tesco Bonus Credit Card. My interest Free period with my old card was coming to an end and there was one factor I was looking at when choosing my next card which was which card is going to give me something back.
I was deciding between this one and Goldfish Credit Card and I decided on this credit card because you are able to get Tesco Clubcard points on everything you buy with it. This is except if you use it in Tesco, you have to use it instead of your actual Clubcard because they will not give you points for one shop on both cards!
I was able to transfer my outstanding balance from my Capital One Credit Card on to this Tesco Credit Card with absolutely no hassle at all. I ...
