Advantages: Easy to drink, very cool to look at, gets you very very very drunk very quickley Disadvantages: Difficult to track down in the shops
Goldschlager was introduced to me by a friend who works in a small local pub, purely because they didn't servce me usual tipple and wanted to get me drunk. I was dubious it has to be said. I was presented with a shot glass with a clear syrupy looking liquid with gold flakes bobbing around quite happily in it. My usual experience with shots of any description, leaves me gagging and doing what is to me a bizaare act. Washing it down with a nicer tasting ... ...in anyway.
Goldschlager is a Cinnamon flavoured liquer, which unlike most drinks designed as shots, does not leave a nasty after taste. It is quite a thick consistency, but somehow manages to not be one of those drinks that you can feel kind of floating on top of your belly (I always find aftershock feels like that to me!). As absurd as it sounds, this drink does actually taste nice!!! Its niether hot nor cold, its just a pleasant ... more

I was presented with a shot glass with a clear syrupy looking liquid with gold flakes bobbing around quite happily in it. My usual experience with shots of any description, leaves me gagging and doing what is to me a bizaare act. Washing it down with a nicer tasting liquid that easy to drink.. Like vodka, or whiskey (urrrgghhhhh)
But it has to be said not this drink. I was so impressed by the taste, texture and effect this drink had on me, the very next day I embarked on a two week mission to find a bottle to have at home.
Its true what they say, the gold flakes are indeed real gold, they rave about it one the bottle, and any review you will ever find on this drink will mention it. Its ingenious! What a selling point! However, I don't know how much truth is in my next statement, although it has been said to me by a couple of different publican's so maybe!! Apparently, the gold flakes in the drink are designed to scrape the delicate skin on your throat as you drink, allowing the alcohol get straight into your blood stream. True or not i don't know, but after 2 shots of this drink, I always embark on a fantastically happy, energetic drunken night where I put on my dancing shoes and trip the light fantastic until dawn. However, I probably should clarify that this drink isn't painful in anyway.

As absurd as it sounds, this drink does actually taste nice!!! Its niether hot nor cold, its just a pleasant flavoured cinnamon drink which isn't so potant it blows the roof of your mouth off. But be warned, it does make you very drunk, I have yet to introduce this drink to anyone who is immune to its effects.
Now I searched high and low for this drink, I asked off licences local to me to order it in, they couldn't, I asked Tesco (after a friend told me they had seen it there before) and they no longer stock it. I eventually tracked it down in an Oddbins in the outback of nowhere (my local Oddbins certainly didn't sell it). But if you can get your hands on a bottle, do. Its lovely, my new favourite tipple, for now. My bottle cost £19.95 and I belive it had 30 shots in it, may have been 20. Will check!
If you do see it you can hardly miss it. Its comes in a clear bottle which is narrow at the top and goes out towards the bottle, and it has gold floating in it.!!
Advantages: You get richer the more you drink Disadvantages: All the gold in the world won't cure your hangover
Back in my dubious past I had the honour of working as bar staff in a pretty well known hotel - and we sold (and drank) a fair amount of this stuff. Personally, I love it - It's like aftershock with class. A sticky cinnamon drink with little flakes of 24 carat Gold floating around in it. Shall I write that again?
This drink has flakes of 24 carat gold floating around in it!! No you can't feel them when you drink it, no you can't get rich by saving ... ...have spent a fortune on schnapps in the process) and no I don't really know what the point of the gold flakes are. Hang on, I've just worked it out - it's so people like you and me can go "Goldschlager? Isn't that the stuff with flakes of gold in it? cool, lets get some!"
Sophisticated marketing ploys aside, this is a high quality product that can be drunk straight, over ice or in any number of cocktails. My personal favourite is known as the Apple ...
