Advantages Advantages Incredibly funny, can be read time and again

Disadvantages Disadvantages Where's the book with the further accurate prophecies then????

Let me start this review with a bit of background to set the scene. My dad started to teach me to read when I was two, and I spent the next few years observing that he always seemed to have a book in his hand and was never bored. I thought that this would be a good lifestyle choice for me, and fervent reading commenced, which was great when I was sent to my room, as reading in peace and quiet was a bit of a treat. My parents probably still wonder why I never objected. Anyway, when I was studying for my A levels, my school gave out a prze every year for the student with the greatest love, and ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny and absorbing read, quite clever too

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe a bit too clever? Not everyone's taste

Many will be familiar with Pratchett for his Discworld series. This book, first published in 1990, is a collaboration with comic-writer Neil Gaiman, but very in keeping with Pratchett’s work. In my opinion, it’s certainly up with the best of the Discworld novels, and it’s also free from the need to know recurring characters and what happened before, being a standalone book. The humour, however, is typical Pratchett, and those who don’t appreciate it probably won’t like this book either. According to the authors’ biographies, the book was written in the four ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, dark and fundamentally British.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Humour is intentionally curbed for plot.

In England the Antichrist is about to be born. Unfortunately, thanks to a couple of bumbling Satanic Midwives, the Antichrist has a new name. "Adam" knows nothing of the evil thing he is to become. As Heaven and Hell prepare for Armageddon, their two demonic and angelic representatives on Earth decide they are quite keen on the world as it is. Of course, they are in favour of Armageddon, "in general terms" but then where would they have lunch? "Good Omens" is a hilarious dark fantasy created by the collaboration of two literary giants in the form of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Pratchett ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic humourous fantasy writing.

Disadvantages Disadvantages none really, trees used for paper?

Terry Pratchett And Neil Gaiman Good Omens Well, im finally back able to write, after a long term of internetmissingitus, basically no phone line! Well that’s enough about me, cos if I was writing about me this review would only be about 4 lines long! So instead we are going to lean over and pick up a nicely sized novel by a certain Mr T. Pratchett and his friend Mr N. Gaiman, entitled Good Omens, which was realeased upon the world in the grand year of 1990. Terry Pratchett started writing a fair few years ago, back in the 60’s whilst still in school, over the years his talents increased and ... more

Advantages Advantages Not a Damian in sight

Disadvantages Disadvantages You do need to have pratchettian sense of the absurd

Obviously there is no sure-fire way to know that you are going to love a book…the cover can mislead you as, frankly, this one does (Ward's illustrations are all wrong)…the author's name is no guarantee - I'm a huge Pratchett fan, but why does he need to team up with Gaiman (of whom I'm shamefully ignorant), it's not like he needs help…even the Time Out quote chosen to adorn the cover is…do people still use words like 'cheesy'? No, you cannot tell whether or not you are going to love a book until you dive in. On the other hand, when the 'dramatis personae' has you laughing out loud, you can ... more
