Advantages: Relatively cheap, plenty of inputs, videoplus
Disadvantages: Bulky, poor quality recordings, all the problems of recording onto what is a very flimsy format, locks up too frequently

.... The Goodmans 300R is a +R/+RW recorder. Features ------------ The 300R is a no-frills DVD Recorder. Having said that, there are some basic but nonetheless welcome additions to its feature set. The first is that it's a videoplus recorder. And it's here that you will immediately notice the difference between a DVD Recorder and a Video Recorder. On a Video Recorder you have to wind and rewind the tape to look for anything you've recorded. With this DVD Recorder you don't. Whenever you record a programme it effectively gets stored in its own area on the disk. Then, when you want to watch it you press a button on the remote (the remote is ESSENTIAL so lose it and you're in trouble) and the 300R gives you a menu of all the programmes you've recorded ... but be careful here. ...I bought a Goodmans CD player previous to this which packed up after a week (held my CD and would not eject it) so I took it back and exchanged for this model which had mp3 facility. It worked OK for a few weeks although it played only SOME mp3 tracks and skipped others. Then it refused to play any discs at all, instead showing "ERROR 1" which the manual said was serious. I should have had more sense than to buy Goodmans because I bought one of their home hi-fi units which also stopped playing CDs after a short time. My advice - pay a bit extra for something reliable with a less cheesy reputation. You can get good deals on much superior merchandise. Steer clear of Goodmans tinpot junk.... Read review
