This month has been very eventful with many of our electrical appliances blowing up, falling over or mysteriously ceasing to work for no apparent reason… Unfortunately our fridge was one of those appliances that refused to work any longer and a replacement was necessary. We came across the ‘Gorenje RK60359OC’ Cream coloured retro style fridge/freezer on appliancesdirect.co.uk for the reasonable price of £769.99 with next day delivery. The fridge / freezer combination seemed rather expensive when compared to some of the other makes and models listed on the website however they did not look as nice as the Gorenje, we wanted something retro looking and the Goreneje seemed to be the best looking of the selection.
Fridge/freezer dimensions – Height – 1887mm, Width – 600mm and Depth – 640mm.
The fridge is situated at the top of this appliance and as usual the fridge is quite a bit larger than the freezer sitting underneath. With the door opened you are greeted with a nice and fresh looking inside compartment with four glass shelves, a vegetable storage drawer and the usual holders built into the door to hold bottles, jars etc… Oh and not forgetting the rack for storing up to four bottles of wine! We are not heavy drinkers so these racks come in handy for storing our flavored water bottles. The inside of the fridge is very roomy and there is plenty of room for all of our items to fit in snuggly without running the risk of items tumbling out after opening the fridge door. There is even a small egg rack built into the door that holds up to 15 medium sized eggs safely and securely.
Everything inside the fridge is of an excellent quality; the glass shelves are very thick and perfectly strong enough to take the occasional dropping of a jam jar, the door shelves are very strong and do not bend and the drink rack is extremely strong – more than strong enough to support four wine bottles. The fridge has a built in light inside that turns on whenever the door is opened, it’s very bright but not too bright creating a nice glow inside without the usual blinding of some fridges during midnight fridge raids (I’m known for them!)The general quality of this appliance is absolutely fantastic and everything feels solid and well designed. The chrome handles are solid, the doors are solid and smooth to open, the drawers – shelves and other accessories are of a top notch quality and everything works as it should. The cream finish is fabulous and the unit is very durable and it seems hard to mark the finish, we’ve whacked it with the vacuum a few times by accident and there are no marks to our baby yet. The appliance came with a standard 5 year warranty which if you ask me – shows that the manufacturer has good faith in its products to offer such a good warranty.
There is very little maintenance needed on this fridge/freezer, the unit self-defrosts which helps cut down the maintenance over many other fridge/freezers. The cleaning of the appliance is very simple and only a wipe over with a damp cloth every now and then is needed to keep the beast in tip-top condition. All of the shelves and accessories can be easily removed from the doors and chamber for easy washing by hand using a mild washing up solution. We are very happy with this fridge/freezer so far, its retro styled, modern in a technology sense and it does the job of chilling our foods and drinks very well. The quality is generally fantastic throughout and everything is solid with no causes for concerns found during our use. The fridge definitely chills very quickly and food seems to last longer in the fridge when compared to our old fridge and it’s very quiet compared to our old fridge. The price of the appliance does seem quite high when compared to other fridge/freezer units of a similar size but they certainly don’t look as nice and I doubt that most will be of the same quality as the Gorenje. It’s a fantastic fridge freezer at a high-ish but worthwhile price.
