Gourmet Burger Kitchen

...just had my lunch at Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Manchester Spiningfields I thought it would be a good time to review, whilst it is fresh in my mind and the onion is still lingering on my breath (niiice I know :-p)

I have eaten at 2 of the Kitchens in the Manchester area and find the layout to be fairly similar, they have quite a simple and contemporary feel to them, with a variety of canvases and quirky lighting making it feel quite fresh and modern.

As it is a burger restaurant you wont feel out of place wearing traditional student attire of jeans and trainers, but it is definately a step up from the likes of McDonalds ... more

Having eaten at The Original Burger Company whilst at a day festival in Birmingham a couple of years ago I tried finding one of the restaurants a little closer to home in Manchester. Although not the same chain I came across GBK and realised they were very similar and just as good.

I have eaten at 2 of the Kitchens in the Manchester area and find the layout to be fairly similar, they have quite a simple and contemporary feel to them, with a variety of canvases and quirky lighting making it feel quite fresh and modern.

As it is a burger restaurant you wont feel out of place wearing traditional student attire of jeans and trainers, but it is definately a step up from the likes of McDonalds or other well known burger venues. I tend to notice a lot of city workers on lunch, families or students dining in here.
Upon arriving you are greeted and shown to a table, handed menus and informed you order and pay at the counter. Simple!

Now my favourite bit.... the food. Whether you want a good old angus beef or chicken burger with a bit of a twist such as Mexican, Chilli or Stilton, minted lamb, wild boar or even veggie/vegan there is a burger for every taste. For those who dont want a burger (why go to a burger restaurant though??) there is also a selection of salads available. And what would any decent burger be without some chunky homemade chips and dip to go with it, I find that one portion is enough for two. There is a selection of starters to tide you over whilst drooling waiting for your Burger, today I tried the chicken kebabs, which were succulent charcoaled pieces of chicken skewered with a spicy mayo dip. Yummmm.

I ventured away from my usual Mexican today and tried the Cajun which has now turned into my new favourite. It was creamy cajun mayo, sweet and spicy cajun relish, mounds of fresh and crunchy salad ( im very picky when it comes to salad, nothing worse than a soggy tomato or brown lettuce) a big fat quality angus burger all popped inside a toasted seeded bun and held together with a giant skewer to stop it toppling over. Delicious.

Compared to your usual Burger joints it is quite expensive, around £6-£8 per burger but this is because you're paying for quality rather than a quick hunger fix. For one starter, 2 soft drinks, 2 burgers and 1 chips it came to approx £25, so not something I could afford for lunch every day but maybe for a weekly treat.

I have eaten at this chain several times now and have tried the Cajun, Veggie, Mexican and Chilli Burger and enjoyed every one.

The staff have always been friendly and helpful, although they seem to wait until you've got a mouth crammed with burger to ask you if everything is ok with your meal lol.

I would definately reccommend this to anyone who likes Burgers but wants to go a bit upmarket :) Always worth having a look at their web site or any money saving site as they often do vouchers for BOGOF or half price burgers etc
