We bought the Graco Quattro Tour Travel System after looking at everything on the market comparing costs, accessories, weight etc.
This travel system was for my first child so I had no previous experience to help me. The whole concept of the travel system is revolutionary; my mom was so impressed. Having the car seat/infant carrier which effectively turns the buggy into a pram and also means that your baby who has fallen asleep in the car can be effortlessly moved into the buggy, is a marvelous invention!
We bought the Graco fro Babies R Us in January 2005 for £190. It came with an auto base, weather shield, foot muff and changing bag (the only thing I have had to buy additionally is a parasol).
The autobase is a brilliant idea. You fix it in the car once and the infant carrier just clicks in place. No messing around with intricate lacing of seat belts while your baby is screaming their head off. The carrier can also be used without the base. We fitted into a Vauxhall Corsa 3 door without any problems. I dread to think what it would have been like trying to squeeze in the back fitting the seat without the autobase! Another advantage of the autobase is it uses only the lap part of the seat belt, so it can be used in the middle seat of most models of cars if needed.
The buggy itself is very sturdy, if a little heavy. It has a "one hand" folding system which is easy to use, but it would be quite a challenge to use one hand to lift the buggy! It is also quite large when folded. It fitted into the back of the Corsa but with room for nothing else!
The weather sheild is also very bulky. It almost fills the shopping basket, which is in itself very large and useful. Should you have to fit the shield quickly then forget it. Both you and baby will be wet!
I used this travel system exclusively for the first 4 months and was very happy with it. What I would say though is it doesn't do well off road. If you want a buggy for shopping, walks around the local paved streets, it's great, very manoueverable if a little heavy, but I would not reccommed it for grass or uneven surfaces. Not unless you baby particularly like being shook around!
We found a 3 wheeler "MAC3" MacClaren on ebay and have used that since. But that said the travel system was invaluable in the beginning and I do not regret buying it.
