...a playpen. I found the Graco Compact Travel Cot/Playpen advertised in Argos costing £48.99. When I phoned our nearest store to check availability I was told that they were currently out of stock, but was on order for the next fortnight. I decided to try elsewhere and looked in Mothercare’s catalogue. The same cot was priced at £40 so already a £9 saving. I ordered it on the Internet and was told to expect delivery within 4 days. My delivery charge ... ...from Graco is an excellent choice in my opinion. As my pram is also made by Graco I knew I was buying something of good quality and for £40 I have not broken the bank much to my hubby’s relief.
Now my son aged 7 months has started crawling and getting into everything, I find it hard to keep an eye on him all the time. Contrary to belief, us mum’s don’t have eyes in the back of our heads, but have to rely on our instinct that if it suddenly goes eerily quiet, our adorable child has found something to play with. Last week my son had managed to pull over my large houseplant and was eating the soil and leaves.
I decided then that for my peace of mind it would be necessary to invest in a playpen. My delivery charge was a mere £3.95 which I was happy to part with as our nearest store is over 30 miles away so it would have cost more in fuel for me to collect it.
After placing the order on the Friday I was amazed that first thing Monday morning my postman knocked on the door and handed me a heavy parcel. Very impressive.
I opened the box and discovered the brightly coloured cot. I thought I would have an arduous task of setting up the cot, but it couldn’t have been easier. The bed was folded and to keep it together the floor panel was secured around it.
To set the cot up remove the floor and unfold the bed. Lift up the sides until you hear them click into position. Once all sides are secure push the central leg down which sticks up from the bottom of the cot. If the leg is pushed down first, the sides will not click into position, so remember sides need to be secured first.
Once bed is fully erected, put the floor panel in the bottom of the cot. The floor can be secured to the travel cot by feeding the Velcro fastenings through two slits in the base of the cot. There is only one height position for the floor.
The cot is very strong and sturdy and can withstand whatever’s thrown at it, be it juice, chocolate, tantrums, or biting. Made from polyester, the travel cot is very easy to clean. Simply wipe down with a soapy sponge and all marks can be removed.
Dismantling the cot is just as easy. Simply detach the flooring and lift the middle leg by pulling the loop of material in the base of the cot. On the side panels there are push buttons, which need to be squeezed to enable you to collapse the cot. Pull all sides of the cot together and wrap the floor around the sides and secure again with the Velcro fastenings. Place in the carry-bag making sure the handle is aligned with the slit in the bag. Voila – ready to go!
All four sides of the cot are brightly coloured – red, blue, yellow and green. The floor panel is equally bright with its chequered pattern made up of these colours. The sides of the cot have a see-through mesh, which allows your child to see what’s going on round about him.
With our holidays just around the corner, this travel cot will come in handy while we’re in our caravan. Because of the lack of space in our van, we can put the playpen in the awning allowing Craig to play in peace without us tripping over him while we’re trying to get organised.
The travel cot is also ideal for visiting family and friends, as it is so easy to set up should they need a nap or if they have expensive ornaments low down that you don’t want them to grab.
Although I don’t like to see babies or young toddlers caged up in playpens all day as they need the freedom to play and explore without restriction, used sensibly, however they are a godsend, especially for me when I’m preparing the evening meal or when I’m doing the housework. I would be lost without my playpen now as my son’s safety is paramount. It only takes a second for an accident to happen so placing him in here for a short time puts my mind at rest and lets me get on.
Weighing in at 8.1kg the travel cot can be heavy to carry, but the handy carry-bag makes transporting it easier. Because the cot folds up, it takes up very little room and can be easily stored.
Our doorways are just wide enough for me to drag the travelcot through if I want to move it from room to room so I don't have to keep unfolding it to move, but it doesn't fit through my friends door which is a bit of a pain.
When not in use the playpen makes a great dumping ground for toys keeping your room tidy when your child is not playing with them.
This travel cot is suitable from birth to 2 years once your child has the ability to pole-vault over the sides.
I have seen many playpens priced for as much as £100, but this one from Graco is an excellent choice in my opinion. As my pram is also made by Graco I knew I was buying something of good quality and for £40 I have not broken the bank much to my hubby’s relief.
Advantages: Can be used as both a travel cot and play pen, easy to clean, easy to carry around Disadvantages: My daughter did not like it as a play pen, can be hard to fold back down
I purchased my Graco Travel cot for £55 from a local independent nursery store. I was looking for a travel cot that would be suitable for use as a play pen too. I bought it about a year ago when my daughter was 6 months. I had just moved into a new flat and was trying to make it into a home for me and my daughter. She was just beginning to shuffle on her bottom and I needed somewhere to keep her safe and let her play while I got up with other jobs. ... ...jobs.
I chose the Graco travel cot as I wanted something light weight that I would be able to move around easily and I also needed one that I would be able to open and close with little trouble. The man in the shop demonstrated how to put the cot up and down a couple of times for me to show me how easy it was. I was very impressed so I handed over my £55 and took it home.
As I have no car the cot had to fold up small as I had to stick half of it ...

Advantages: Folds up compactly, bright colours, use as a cot or play pen Disadvantages: Thin mattress base
...and when she saw the Graco compact she decided that was the one, she loved that it was nice and bright and thought my son would enjoy playing in there as well as sleeping. We ordered it from Kiddicare but unfortunately they have stopped selling it. I have since seen it on Amazon, Halfords and Ebay though for roughly the same prices. ~*~*~FEATURES~*~*~

Graco Travel Cot with Bassinet
With all the new nursery items you have on your list to buy it can be a bit of a nightmare trying to decide which would be the best to suit you, well here’s some helpful advice from me, forget Moses Baskets and wooden cribs, I found this to be all I needed for the first few months of my daughter’s new life. On our return from hospital my husband and mother in law had been busy getting all the new baby’s nursery items ... ...moved into a rented holiday cottage temporarily, as well as the birth of our new baby, life was a bit hectic!!
We took our daughter into each room and introduced her to all her new equipment & toys - this took a while as you can imagine! Come bedtime we gently placed her into her new bed and there she gently drifted off into sleep (well until her next feed was due anyway).
The bassinet feature worked really well as we could see here at eyelevel ...

Advantages: Plenty of room for nappies and stuff in care centre Disadvantages: Doesn't fit through doors.
...I first ordered a Graco Contair Travel Cot from Littlewoods Extra for £69.99 but when it arrived realised that it wouldn't work as it didn't fit through the doors. Oops. That was sent back sharpish and I spotted a Graco Travel Cot/Care Centre. It boasted to be 66cm wide when upright and we thought hurray as it would fit. It also comes with a basinette and a care centre which comprises of four different sized compartments that can be clipped into ... ...wipes and other paraphinalia that a baby needs.
The basinette is only half sized so it will not last very lng before she is too big to fit and the canopy is ok but it can make it very difficult to get her in and out. This can be unclipped though and pushed out of the way.
Also the basinette mattress is the playpen mattress which has been folded.
The care centre is excellent and I find that I have to clear it out often as it is so handy to put ...

My parents bought a Graco Contour Electra travelcot (bit of a mouthful I know!) to keep at their house for those times when my little monkey became too much of a handful & had to be sent off to Grandma's for a reprieve for mummy...
I was shocked that they had spent so much money (£100) on something that would only be used infrequently - I fully expected them to buy something basic instead.
However, now that the cot has actually been used a few times I think we are all in agreement that the extra cost was well worth it.
This cot is perfect for my parents since they are (quite!) old & not as flexible as they used to be. The mattress can be used in 2 height positions, so that whilst my son is a baby, they don't have to over-stretch to lift him in & out. Also, there is a sturdy changing mat which straddles the cot, allowing them ...
Advantages: bassinet with nightlight, vibrating padded mattress & music centre, toy bar, changing mat with straps Disadvantages: electronic features can only be used with bassinet
Our daughter is now 14 months and has used her travelcot as her main cot since birth. As we live in a 2-bedroom house and already had 2 boys sharing one room, we wanted something that she could use in our room for a while, that wouldn't get in the way too much, whilst still giving her room to grow. Graco's Contour Electra was perfect. It looked really stylish with its contoured design, and nicely padded top rails, and the mesh sides meant that baby could see you. It had a full size bassinet which we used as a crib when she was small, with an integral nightlight and a vibrating mattress and music centre to help soothe her to sleep. And a toy bar to keep her amused when she was awake. Baby had plenty of room for sleeping or playing, and it also doubled as a changing unit. It could be packed up or moved out of the way easily when ...
Advantages: lots of advantages Disadvantages: can not clean it
We bought this one to replace our old gracotravelcot which was fine but got a bit dirty. I have had five children of my own and use this for my constant supply of grandchildren.
This one was bought on offer from argos at half the RRP, around £50 and we found it a great replacement for the more basic gracotravelcot. this one features a inner cot which raises the base so that you can see a smaller baby sleeping. it has a toy moble, which we never used and a changing station which lays over the cot to change at waist height, which we never used. The light and sound and vibrating feature is great and the batteries last for ages. It is a little tricky to get the top bassinet fitted and unfitted but it loosens a little each time you use it.
The biggest problem I have with these travelcots is that they are so hard to clean. If you use ...
