When you think of port do you think of Christmas time, feeling full after a Christmas dinner? Sitting round a log fire, Stilton cheese? (I do not like Stilton I prefer a nice piece of mature cheddar)

I like port at any time of the year. (Although it is more of a winter warming drink) It is a warm comforting fortified wine a rich full-bodied sweet dark red or amber brown. Smooth, luxurious, rich, elegant, sophisticated.
Port originates from the Douro region of Portugal.
A ruby port is one that is made of wines from different years blended together and matured
Tawny port remains longer in the cask than a ruby making it an amber brown colour tasting softer and drier. Is also made from wines of different years.
A vintage port is made exclusively of wines from the same year, is 2 to 5 years in the wood. Mmmmmm I love that image wooden casks full of deep red port, let me get to them (now now I mustn’t get carried away)
White port is made from white grapes. I have had some cheap rough Ports in my time. Port’s can come very expensive those are out of my league.
I have a bottle of Porto Barros vintage 1979 in front of me and a bottle of Old porto Westport 10 ans (10 yrs) looks a classier bottle. They are unopened, alcohol in the morning no not for me I may try one tonight. I finished a bottle of Barros vintage 1984 last week. It was pleasant left me feeling all warm and cosy.
Thank you for reading I must put these Port’s away before I am tempted its breakfast time. Port
