mammoth task ahead of it, but surpass it does and by some distance. The two gaming discs contain an Arcade version to get you racing straight away, or the Simulation mode where you have to race for cash to buy and upgrade your cars. Realism is the core ofGT2so you really do have to get your racinggloves on.The range of cars is offensively large--everything from the Toyota Yaris to the Dodge Viper is covered. The attention to detail is fantastic, the cars sound and perform like the real thing and the upgrades available cover everything from alloy wheels to a racing weight flywheel for your engine. There are a number of different driving licences to pass and you have to have a particular class of licence to race in the different leagues, which get progressively harder, but reap richer rewards. To really succeed inGran Turismo 2you have think like a racer--slip-streaming and power sliding around corners to get the edge on your opponents are just some examples. The two versions of the game provide a great balance between a serious sim and quick multi-player arcade action, making it a worthwhile investment. While the gameplay sits on the realistic side, so it takes a little time to get totally proficient behind the wheel. Having said that, once you master control of your machine, you really do have the power. If driving is your thingGran Turismo 2is a must. --Chris Hall

Polyphony Digital'sGran Turismo 4is one of 2005's biggest releases and, to boot, one of ... more
the most important PS2 games yet. What makes it such a significant title?First up,Gran Turismo 4is bigger and better than previous games in the record-breaking series.Muchbigger, in fact: there are some 500 cars to drive, and around 100 courses on which to take those motors for a spin. Every single car is a perfectly modelled replica of its real-life equivalent, containing much more detail than the car models found inGran Turismo 3. And it shows: thanks to this increased level of detail,GT4edges the series ever closer to photorealism.By far the biggest ofGran Turismo 4's many attractions is its online play. Over the Internetor using a local area network of PS2 consoles, it will be possible for six people to meet and race, each with their own cars. The prospect of an onlineGran Turismocommunity is certainly something to look forward to.AsGran Turismocontinues to evolve, Polyphony Digital ups the ante by making each new instalment more comprehensive than the last.Gran Turismo 4follows that admirable trend: its driver AI is more lifelike, its physics engine is more complex, its engine noises sound closer to the turbines mimicked... and there's more of everything. To top it all,GT4boasts improved handling overGT3. All this work should achieve the desired result:Gran Turismofans will be kept happy and new converts will be made. --Jonti Davies
exploits to the full the power of PS2 - racing has never looked so good! With a host of gorgeous cars to choose from and stunningly realistic environments to race in, GT3 offers a flawless driving experience. And with the added sensitivity of the analog control, you really are put in the driving seat. There are also new courses, new cars and improved weather conditions. Are you ready?

This is a sort of best-of collection of those that, for no readily apparent reason, will not be sold in the US.GT Concept 2002has two main goals: to provide a version ofGran Turismo 3that's easier to get into and play, and to include a whole heap of brand new motors including special concept cars that you normally only see at the aforementioned motor shows. And pleasingly it does exactly this, with the new driving aids being particularly welcome to anyone who has ever had trouble with the game's notoriously sensitive control system. If you own a PS2 and you're even remotely interested in driving cars very fast around beautiful looking tracks then you simply must own aGran Turismogame--and this is the perfect place to start. If you're already a fan, though, this is the ideal stopgap until the next full sequel comes along. Which basically works out as a bit of win-win situation, especially at this pleasingly non-rip-off price. --David Jenkins

Gran Turismo 2 has got to be the best Playstation game ever.
It provides great graphics, extensive gameplay, and a wide array of cars.
The graphics are extremely crisp and fast, which makes it the most realistic looking game I've ever seen. There are over 600 real cars, from real manufactures, ranging from a Mini Cooper to a Subaru Impreza, and from a Ford Focus to a Dodge Viper!
The gameplay is also very realistic. You start off the game with a sum of 10,000 credits, to buy your first car. Like in real life you can't afford a very good car, brand new, for that price, so you must buy a second hand one to start you off.
Once you have a car you can get racing. You earn money by winning races, but if you want to get some serious cash you have to get into the big competitions. But, as with real life, anyone can't enter an important race. You must first get a licence. Licences are earned by completing a set of 10 challenges, each within a certain time limit. The higher the races you enter are, the harder it is to gain a licence.
You can update and tweak your car in many different ways. On many models you can buy a Turbo kit or NA Tuning, and there are also many other 'accessories', like a Carbon Propellor Shaft, or a set of Dirt or Slick tires.
There also are many tracks to choose from (about 30), circuit, road, and rally, to be raced during the night or day. Once you have completed a race you can watch a TV style replay. You can even save one on your memory card to show your mates some other time.
The game is on two discs, Gran Turismo Mode (the full game), and Arcade Mode (racing cars without having to save up cash or gain licences).
The only problem I have found so far, and I have owned the game since the day of it's release a couple of years ago, are that it takes up too many blocks of your memory card. The game data took up 5 blocks of mine and each replay takes up 2 to 3.
Advantages: comprehensive, it's going to take a long time to finish Disadvantages: outdated, it's going to take a long time to finish
The original Gran Turismo (GT) game heralded a major step forward in racing games. It proclaimed itself to be 'The Real driving Simulator'. Well it didn't recreate trying to get a parking space on a Saturday morning at Woolies, but as far as track racing (Y'know, cars going round and round) it was on the mark for a 32-bit system.
GT2, 'The Next Stage of the Real Driving Simulator', was the highly anticipated follow up. GT with bells and whistles ... ...IN MY CAR*
GT2 is split into two main categories: 'Arcade' and 'GT mode', each on their own disc. Arcade offers the player (that's you) a smidgen of cars and tracks. Each track has a difficulty level of Easy, Medium and Hard. Completing all the courses on all difficulty levels earns a reward. In GT it was a high res mode, in this I don't know what it is. I've been 'going at it' with GT mode.
Arcade mode allows the player (again, that's you) to ...

...first expression when I played Gran Turismo 2 for the first time. I've actually got a PS2, but nevertheless, i'm sure that the game quality is just as good on PS1. I bought this game as soon as i got the PS2, for just £17. What a bargin. It must be the best money that i've ever spent! What makes GT2 so great is its shear scale. It has quite a few courses to choose from, about 26 i believe, which can all be raced in reverse, effectively doubling the ... ...a real life racing track from the USA, with the famous 'Rollercoaster Turn', which has been faithfully reproduced in this game. The tracks themselves are very well designed. They all have their own unique characteristics, and you never get a feeling of "I've seen this somewhere else", even when you drive the circuits that are actually shortened versions of some of the others, such as the Seattle and Rome short and long tracks. Plus, no two tracks ...

What a Gran Game Review ofGran Turismo 2 (PlayStation)by
GR-Design
Advantages: Amount of cars Disadvantages: No damage
Gran Turismo 2. I’d seen a lot of reviews about it, and I’d seen it being played on Tv shows when it was first released but I’d never actually got round to playing it and as an avid fan of car games, I don’t really know why I held back so much from playing it!
I then saw it available for rent in Blockbusters, so I thought what the hell and rented it, and I’m glad I did! Suddenly I was deeply engrossed in this game, ... ...The cars in Gran Turismo are excellent. With so many available I thought that the control of the cars, look and sound of them would all be a bit of a let down. I was wrong. Each car has its own unique sound, true to the real life sound. They each have their own capabilities such as speed and performance. Each car also costs a different amount of money. How do you get money? By either winning or taking part in races. You can also take your car to ...

Advantages: Great gameplay, countless car configurations Disadvantages: Arcade disk not up to scratch
In this review I will go over both GT2 Cds
SIMULATION DISC
The GT simulation disc is great. You start of with $10000 and buy a car. Then you race it and earn money. You can unlock new races with bigger Prize money by earning licenses. This feature is good, but some license tests are really hard. Although the game has great replay value due to so many customiseable car parts and the such, I found once you had the International A license (best standard ... ...which offered a car and money to the value of $94000 which was the easiest track in the game (just a loop) destroyed the experience for me.
ARCADE DISK
This disc is shocking. It is just like any arcade racer, and has no real reason for playing it when you can play the simulation disc. the only cool thing is the option of importing cars from simulation mode, so you have supercharged cars. If this was standalone, It wouldn't sell.
GRAPHICS

...In my opinion the Playstation 3 is the greatest gaming console out in the current market. When i bought the product, i didn't buy only a gaming machine, i actually bought an entertainment machine. The Playstation 3 gives you the most powerful gaming console out in the market with some of the best games including GranTurismo 5, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 which are only on the Playstation 3. Other then gaming, the PS3 offers more features including a blu ray player. Blu Ray is the next generation of disc which hold and play 1080p HD media including films. The PS3 also has photo support, music support, internet support. In my opinion one of the main advantages of the PS3 is the free Playstation Network which allows players to play games online against players around the world for free. The service runs smoothly. The Playstation 3 has...

Compatibility and Testing
-------------------------
To test the other various features of the Playstation2, I got a few DVD's to fire up and took a peek. Now, I have a Toshiba DVD player, and I have to say, I really don't see the difference between the two. And I paid a lot of money for the DVD player too! The Playstation2's DVD performance was flawless, and had no problems. I didn't really mind using the controller as the remote control.
On backwards compatibility, I tried GranTurismo2 (for the Playstation 1). Although Sony claims regular Playstation games are supposed to play the same, I actually thought that it looked better. The original Sony Playstation had some major "jaggy" effects - the polygons looked smoother than the original Playstation. During game play, I had no problems! It was...

Not only is the ps2 got its own selection of game titles to choose from with amazing graphis and gamplay (just look at granturismo 3), the ps2 is backwards compatible, which means that you can play your old playstation 1 games on your ps2 - including controllers and memory cards (but not the other way around!).
If games don't completely float your boat, then why not watch a DVD. There were a lot of rumours going around about the playstation2's ability to play dvds wasn't very - this has been proved false. You can play any region 2 (uk) dvds, and there are cds you can buy that will allow you watch other regions on your ps2 (requiring an empty memory card though!)....
