Gran Turismo 2 has got to be the best Playstation game ever.
It provides great graphics, extensive gameplay, and a wide array of cars.
The graphics are extremely crisp and fast, which makes it the most realistic looking game I've ever seen. There are over 600 real cars, from real manufactures, ranging from a Mini Cooper to a Subaru Impreza, and from a Ford Focus to a Dodge Viper!
The gameplay is also very realistic. You start off the game with a sum of 10,000 credits, to buy your first car. Like in real life you can't afford a very good car, brand new, for that price, so you must buy a second hand one to start you off.
Once you have a car you can get racing. You earn money by winning races, but if you want to get some serious cash you have to get into the big competitions. But, as with real life, anyone can't enter an important race. You must first get a licence. Licences are earned by completing a set of 10 challenges, each within a certain time limit. The higher the races you enter are, the harder it is to gain a licence.
You can update and tweak your car in many different ways. On many models you can buy a Turbo kit or NA Tuning, and there are also many other 'accessories', like a Carbon Propellor Shaft, or a set of Dirt or Slick tires.
There also are many tracks to choose from (about 30), circuit, road, and rally, to be raced during the night or day. Once you have completed a race you can watch a TV style replay. You can even save one on your memory card to show your mates some other time.
The game is on two discs, Gran Turismo Mode (the full game), and Arcade Mode (racing cars without having to save up cash or gain licences).
The only problem I have found so far, and I have owned the game since the day of it's release a couple of years ago, are that it takes up too many blocks of your memory card. The game data took up 5 blocks of mine and each replay takes up 2 to 3.
All in all Gran Turismo is a fantastic game.
At only £20 it is a snatch. Go on BUY IT!!
