I will start by saying just how much i thourougly enjoyed playing this, in my opinion Gran Turismo 4 is one of the best racing games available to buy.
The graphics in this game are unbelievable, The detail of the cars, tracks and scenery is immense in itself. There is no skipping or late rendering during gameplay. There has been great effort put into make this game as fantastic as it is. They have really come a long way since GT3. The cars sound as realistic as ever, each one having its own sounds. I think Gran Turismo has a better variety of cars than any other racing game, obviously this only being a prelude you dont get as many as on the proper release.
The music on the menu screens is the same as other GT releases which i think adds to the effect of the game itself.
With this release you get 64 cars, although a lot of them need to be unlocked in school mode.
When you enter the main menu you get six options: School mode, Arcade mode, Option, Replay theatre, Load game and Save game.
School mode - This is where you will find all the licence tests and 40 challenges. This is where you really learn to play the game. The lessons you have to undertake are colour coded in their difficulty, Green being the easiest to red being the hardest. Some are as simple such as learning how to steer, breaking and cornering speed limits but it does get a lot harder when you get to doing the more complex ones like double-apex cornering and high speed cone slalom. You are judged on how well you do and given medals for your efforts (Bronze, silver and gold). The bronze are easy to achieve but the gold ones are a lot harder. When all lessons are cleared at a certain level you will get a pass certificate for the level you have achieved.
Arcade mode - Once you have gained some driving skill and are ready to test it, you can try your luck at the arcade mode. Here it is mostly time-trials that you will have to face, You have use of the games five tracks using the cars that you have unlocked in school mode. The only downside is that you DO NOT get the opportunity to customise your cars performance.
Option - here you have a few choices as listed below:
Screen settings - Change te screen ratio to either 16.9 (widescreen) or 4.3 (standard). Or you can reposition the game on your tv screen.
Arcade mode settings - Turn the background music and traction control ON or OFF. Turn opponents cars ON or OFF. Set the difficulty level and number of laps in a race.
Autosave - Turn the autosave functio ON or OFF.
Analog controller settings - Toggle the vibration function ON or OFF and select automatic or manual transmission.
Steering wheel controller settings - Three different control configurations to choose from and set the force feedback.
GT Force - Set the steering assist level (beginner, professional or simulation) here.
With the option Replay theatre you can manage and watch all your saved replays.
This is a brilliant game even though it doesnt come close to having as many cars or options as the full game.
Advantages: Improved Backgrounds, New Cars Disadvantages: Limited Tracks
...and help you decide.
Gran Turismo 4: Prologue is, as I am sure you are well aware is a taster of what is to come when the full game is released later this year. (At the moment the release date is around November but this is always subject to change).
There are 2 modes available in Prologue; Driving School and Arcade Mode. These are rather similar to what you will have seen in previous GT titles.
Driving School: You are given a pre-selected car ... ...On this version of the game however, rather than reading the instructions then trying to complete the task you are given a computer controlled run through so you can get a sneeky peak at the proper breaking zones while the very talented Vicky Butler-Henderson provides a voice over of instructions. This is a nice touch and can be really helpful on the harder tests.
The school is broken into several sections with progressive difficulty. As you pass ...

Advantages: It's Gran Turismo Disadvantages: It's a watered down version of GT4
The Most annoyimg thing about games is that you wait endlesy for one you want the at the last minute the release date is pushed back. Now the same it happening with GT4 as it slips yet further into the distance, however Sony wanting to hold the attention of all there fans have brought this little gem out. GT4:Prologue is a lighter version of its big brother GT4 and, unfortunetly it's limitations are there to be seen by all right from the beginng. ... ...to keep anticipation for the full version high. However it has alot going for it as well. GT4:Prologue has 46 driving tests,64 cars, and an arcade mode, also five tracks from the full version of the game are featured on this one. The Driving lessons can be passed fairly easily at bronze, but if you want silver or even gold you'll have to keep practicing, although this adds nothing to the game outside expanded longetivity.
The GT4:Prologue controls ...

Advantages: Gets an peek at the bigger and better game, pretty cheap too Disadvantages: Limited cars and features
I've played all except GT1 and this fine little number. GT4 is going to be a truly superb release, the graphics could have you gobsmacked for half an hour alone, and thats just watching the demo. Truly a magnificent piece of work by the makers polyphony and their picture perfect graphics. way more detail and way more cars have been added, and i do believe the game has taken a turn for the best, as the GT4 prologue edition is just an appetiser. Nothing ... ...the monster kusabi, a new car recently featured in a motor show in the US. So they are not just chucking in any old car, but yes, a lot of our old favourites will be showing up too, such as the sklyines, integras, elises and a personal favourite, the rally ice car. This game looks like a true gem, and would double as a simulator in my opinion due to the wide range of tests and car-rewarding tasks. I am definitely getting it, what about you? 9 out ...

Gran Turismo 4 Prologue Edition is one of the best racing games out. this game is simply brilliant, its the full package with the top cars in the world and the top racing tracks in the world. Advantages: 2 main modes which are both good Disadvantages: you have to win cars to play on arcade mode
gran turismo 4 for playstation 2 will keep you occupied for quite a long time.
You always start off with the bad cars on school mode that you win for arcade mode but all the cars gets better as it progresses.
They have improved the handling a lot which has made it better. Because gran turismo 3 had bad handling it made it a lot harder and people were complaining it was to hard but because the handling is better this time round it has made it a ...

Advantages: Beautiful graphics and loads of cars Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too much of a simulator rather than a 'game'
GranTurismo4 is the latest of the long series of exceptional racing games from Polyphony Digital, a division of Sony.
It has been a long wait since GranTurismo 3 was released right at the start of PS2 history, sure there was GranTurismo Concept and GranTurismo4: Prologue but nothing comes near the quality of a full GranTurismo game.
The wait has been worth it though, and Polyphony Digital seem to have pushed the Playstation 2 to it's limits with GranTurismo4.
Cars: Over 700 cars from popular (and not so popular) manufacturers around the globe have been packed into GT4. There are large collections of Japanese, American and Europe cars plus some from other countries like Korea and Australia.
Among the many manufacturers are companies like Ford, Toyota, Nissan and Renualt just to name a few, there are also many other more ...
